This is a pic of the firewall on my friends 1998 F800 with a 12. valve Cummins. The hose comes off a port on the top of the oil filter and goes into fitting you see here. I believe the top sensor is the oil pressure sensor. What is the sensor (or part) on the left?

krewat 02-09-2018 05:10 PM

That bell-shaped thing is the oil pressure sensor. The one on top might be for an idiot light or alarm of some kind.

Or a low-oil-pressure cutoff for fuel maybe.

OK Thanks

That's most likely the problem. The truck shows low and no oil pressure on the dash gauge, which looks like it's straight out of an 84 F150. I'm going to put a mechanical gauge on it to verify good pressure first. I think I'll tap right into that port.

His 98 F-800 has a 5.9 12v Cummins? Must be a early 98 model.
My 93 F-800 has a 8.3 Cummins.

Hello!

I heard about you from "Destroked 450". He told me about your ability to decode the VINs on Fords. I'm really interested to see what you can tell me about this Louisville. We just purchased it a month or so ago and plan to use it for a yard switcher and part-time road tractor. All I know is that it has a Big Cam Cummins, and a 9-speed. I appreciate anything at all that you can tell us. Thank you!

Numbers help please!

I am including all the numbers I found on the door jam (*'s replacing last digits of the VIN for my privacy sake) My primary interest is in the Trans and Axle codes.

Thanks in advance!!

Eric

I could be wrong,,,, but I believe the 8.3 was used in the air brake models, and the 5.9 was used in the lower GVW models with juice brakes. (like mine)

Don't know about the trucks, but 20+ years ago I drove a school bus here in NC. The county started buying Ford B800s (bus equivalent of the F800), and they had air brakes and the 5.9 Cummins. Those were 1995-97 models. Great driving buses, too!

Looking for some info on this vin, please and thank you. Owner says its a 361v4 but I thought they only offered the 331 for this truck?
Vin N70DUF92177 will have a pic of the plate tomorrow evening, for now I only have the vin.

Thanks!!!!

If it is original (A big if) and is a 4bbl carb, it could be a 361. 330s were 2bbl , 361s were 2 or 4, 391s 4 only. Stand by on the VIN decode.

bhain 02-21-2018 08:08 PM

original carb?

I did not get into the engine bay to deep as it was really snowing at the time and getting dark. I can say that it was in fact the original air cleaner on the truck which I know means little. I am surprised at how hard it is to find info on these motors on line.

VIN: N70DUF92177

No such thing as a 331, the 361 was available w/a 4V carb, but not until 1974.

Most sellers haven't a single clue what size the engine is.

N70 = N700 (gas).

D = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine. (If it was a 361, the VIN engine code would be: E)

U = Louisville KY Assembly Plant.

F92177 = 1969.

Hello Bill, I posted a request for a door tag decode under the "11 Digit VIN Decode " thread 6 days ago and didn't get any response yet, wasn't sure if it was because you were very busy "which I know you are from reading all your replies" or if I should have posted it in this thread which you started. Anyway I have this early 70's LT9000 in the yard which has a beautiful condition frame, suspension and axles that would be worthy of restoration. It has an 8V71 Detroit, 13 speed and big Eaton rear axles. It was owned and run by a logging company all its life. Not sure if the present drivetrain was original or upgraded later. Here is a photo of the doortag that I scrubbed and cleaned extensively so It is readable. Could you decode this Tag for me? Thank you, Dano
