Not sure if I ever posted these pics from my favorite junkyard which we called Smitty's which has now been cleaned up.

53 F600 beer truck. I looked this one over but nothing could be salvaged.

pile of hubcaps collected by Smitty over the years. His daughter charged me $1 per cap. I picked out the best and sold them to a hubcap collector. The Ford caps I sold at Carlisle for $10-15.

a 52 F2 that I picked a lot of parts from. I took off the bed and sold it. I sold the grille and front panel, 6 cylinder emblem, doors, heater and interior parts. I remember seeing this truck in 1999 when I was looking for parts for my 54. It was in great shape. The red and white two tone really caught my eye. Too bad it sat there for the next 20 years sinking into the ground. Fortunately all the windows were intact and the doors shut. That saved the interior parts. I think the engine must have been shot and they parked it there because the truck was not wrecked or had dented body panels.

Just think about the cool camper this thing could have been. :( It makes me sad.

Speaking of campers, I just noticed one to the far right in the top photo.

I did miss that in the post ,maybe he didn't have his 55 then..
The one he got was from a different truck he bought, 55 F600

I did get it, as Ford man said above. And it was before I had my 55. I had the red 70 F350 12 foot flatbed. And the bed I put on my 55 last year was in much better shape.

That N-Series in the background looks pretty cool. Those things don't get enough love.

They used that to smash cars/trucks and then lift them with its boom with claws into a roll off dumpster to go to the scrap yard.

The junkyard owner's daughter was scrapping cars to raise money for her parents resthome care.

Old Smitty was an old farmer. He had a wrecker and started pulling in wrecks and putting them in his fields. He supposedly said these fields will make me more money with junkers than with crops. He was quite a character and was a legend in this area.

Do you 'spose he was right? Did he make more money selling junk than growing food?

I don't know. I just don't know.

But I do know that his wrecks paid for his and his wife's care in the home.

Eh, I know it's an unpopular opinion but I really like them. They have a very early space age look to them with a lot of design language shared with the Falcon of the time. It's got that slick Jetsons look while also being a big tough looking truck. It's a really cool blend unique to that brief period. The short lived COE GMC 7000 v12 trucks also had the same thing going on and it's a real shame nobody remembers either of them.
