It may be beautiful yard art, but somehow I find it a little disturbing. All I can see is that poor truck throwing up. :-X13

That's too bad, from what I see the body looks pretty good in that picture..proves the point of driving a car into the ground...
You’re right. I wouldn’t do this either. Would brake my heart to bury a vintage car into the ground... The guy is a collector of old Cadillacs. Maybe he doesn’t like old Fords... |

These 2 trucks are at an abandoned tungsten mine in Indian wells canyon. I believe they've been there since the 50's. There is some equipment still there along with a cabin and some out buildings.

This morning I went to a junkyard about an hour away to look for a project truck. I came home empty-handed but took a few pictures for you guys.
There was an '48-50 F5 with a non-Ford-script flatbed. Not much to be saved. It had a non-syncho 4-speed. There was a '48-50 F6 with what could have been a T-98 transmission. Not much to be saved and to get that transmission out would require a lot of effort and perhaps a skycrane to lift it away to a place where you can load it. That truck was buried behind many. many rows of wrecks. There was a '51 1/2 ton with five-star-extra trim and a very beat-up magic air heater. That was the one I went to look at. Unfortunately the frame was cracked and rusted in the rear. Surprisingly he had a 1/2 ton frame next to it that wasn't in bad shape but still had issues from being manhandled with a fork loader. He wanted $2,200 for the truck. It wasn't in good enough shape to be worthwhile at that price and I didn't make an offer. He wanted to keep it all together so picking the trim off it wasn't an option. He was a nice guy and we chatted about old trucks for quite a while. I'll keep that truck in mind. Denny (Firstrider) came to mind as I considered what he goes through when he does his famed Parts Safari's. I had to crawl through some rough brambles, spider webs, hornet nests and twisted cars in order to reach the old trucks. They were buried behind many rows of a 50 year collection of junk with no room between the vehicles. Yes I walked on hoods and roofs to see into the dark corners of that yard. But I loved every minute of it. Junkyards are cool. Too bad he wouldn't let you pick parts . There's some good pieces there .

The old Dodge behind the big Ford didn't look too bad. Can't tell if it had a bed or not. Looks to be a '50.

The Dodge was also missing a lot of pieces. No bed. This picture was from his ad. Tom https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...a07d52c774.jpg |
Found this one about an hour west of me. The owner was quite interesting to talk to despite the signs posted next to it. He hopes to sell this truck some day and is collecting best offers before he makes a decision. It was mostly complete but was a 'Flintstone' truck with no cab or bed floor left at all. The engine was propped up on the crossmembers of the bed, with no intake manifold and wide open to the elements and more of a birdbath than anything. It had been off the road since 1995 according to the registration. I'll stay in touch with this one - it is still savable to an ambitious person.
Tom p.s. - the sign says 'No trespassing - we are tired of hiding the bodies'. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...f10ac556e.jpeg |
