I've heard this comment from a few guys, that it seems to look smaller or lower than the previous truck. I have heard that the bed sides are shorter, which wouldn't hurt my feelings, they are already pretty danged high to lift anything over.
As with anything, I'll reserve judgement until detailed dimensions are released. I doubt we'll be seeing many of these up here in canuck-land until winter.

Yes, "reach over" in the bed is a PITA on the current truck, looks good, but...... I don't think anyone will see them until towards the end of 2014, from what I have read.

"The aerodynamics were much more at the forefront on this launch," Richards said of the aluminum-body truck. Ford has not discouraged industry speculation the truck could get as much as 30 miles per gallon in highway driving. -USA Today article 8/27/2014

Yep, that's right they're tossing around the 30 MPG number - can't help but feel this is being done on purpose. I get that this may be the highway figure for a stripped 4x2 2.7 eco-boost but none-the-less impressive and will translate to higher MPG right on down the line 4x4's, 3.7 liter, etc.

Well, one thing is for sure....It doesn't resemble the GM twins, those things got worse IMO for sure, looks like it has the aerodynamic qualities of a brick, and has piano casters for wheels. I know the bed supposed to have a much better "reach over" but it is not proportional to the lines of the truck, and the wheel wells just don't seem, well,....right:-hair?! As long as Ford doesn't take that direction, we'll be okay!

I really can't wait to see one in person. I, for one, really like the new GM trucks though, and I'd definitely test drive one along with the Ram before I bought another F150. But looks really are of no consequence to me, they could beat it with the ugly stick all day long and I'd still buy it if it was the best tool for the job.

2002 was the first year of the new body style for the half ton and when they dropped the solid axle.

I am purchasing a new truck in January and it will be either the new 2015 F150 or the Ram 1500 eco-diesel. I am waiting to see the final numbers on MPG, see each 2015 version in person, test drive each, and what the final cost will be after any incentives and dealer discount. It will either be a 2015 Lariat 4x4 super cab (2.7 or 3.5 EB depending on the new truck's MPG) or a 2015 Ram Laramie quad cab, 4x4 eco-diesel.

If I was in that market I would buy the Ram and then come back to Ford after we see what they come out with.

The point? I'm loving the new body and I think it will outlast anything that's currently in production.

I always thought the 01-03 SuperCrew was one of the best looking super crews made, i'd still take a white king ranch just to have it:-jammin

I think they need to go 56 f100 style fat fenders.....its working for Camaro,Mustang,Challenger etc...why not one of the most beautiful trucks of all time

Frdtrkrul 08-31-2014 03:12 AM

I think a flareside rebirth is needed for this new generation.

The main thing I never liked about the 97-03 is that working under the hood is a major PITA to do any type of work really. EGR valve is in the way for the most part and a good chunk of the engine is under the cowl. Which is probably why I like the 09+ F150s with the 5.0L...nothing tucked under, basic maintenance is much easier (nicer oil filter placement).

But like the 97 MY the 2015 is a gamble on a new body style and is seemed as being a radical in using aluminum where steel sheet metal has been used for years on the cab.

AlaskanEx 08-31-2014 03:15 AM

I do agree doing plugs on my '98 5.4 Expedition is "fun" but luckily that is the only work i've ever had to do to it. Change oil and put gas in it and it just goes and goes!

I think i like the new body style, i really want to sit in one, drive one and see it in person.
