I took my truck in the morning with the rough idling/hard starting symptoms. You could smell gasoline from the exhaust. Warranty was just up in March, and I'm at 61,900 kms (~35000 miles). Injector #3 was locked on and had dumped enough fuel into the motor that it was locked up. They said there was too much load on the the starter which caused it to burn out when they tried to move it into the bay. The symptoms got really noticeable yesterday. I just picked it up, and after replacing the injector and changing the oil and starter, everything seems normal, they figure I caught it in time. Mine's a 2006 with the 5.4L V8... I had it serviced @ a local Midas because we get a discount through my employer, and the Ford shop rates are astronomical.

I wonder how much longer before the other injectors fail? Ford should have extended that customer bulletin for the '06s as well...

Hydro Lock

I know this is an old post but wanted to add this for anyone that might be reading. I also have a 2006 5.4 F150. I was just at my mechanic because a fuel line fitting blew off the filter (not sure why yet). During our conversation he was telling me about a service bulletin Ford has out on this engine as it relate to changing plugs TSB 06-15-2. He showed it to me and I read it. You stated you had the plugs changed. There is an issue where the plugs are getting stuck and breaking off. Part of the resolution is to place penetrating oil on the plug to loosen the carbon. It makes mention that using too much however will cause hydro lock. The problem could have been caused by the dealer.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
