Mount Rushmore took us a couple of days. Good long drives as well. We went up 35 to witchita ks then stayed at a hotel north of there I think on 435. From there we weaved our way up by traveling north to I-80 I believe and headed west. We came into the Mount Rushmore area through hot springs South Dakota. That is beautiful as well. It would have been after 9 central time I believe when we finally arrived only it was only 8. It might have been later but that is an approximation.

If you go up to Mount Rushmore, Devil's Tower in Wyoming isn't far away considering how far you would have already come. You can follow I-90 west to Buffalo, then 16 over to Worland, then down to Thermopolis, which is kind of like the Hot Springs of Wyoming. Except from what I remember, it is a sulfur spring and has the smell of rotten eggs. But not to worry, you get over the smell pretty quick. Or you go north at Worland and go to Cody, then on around and down to Jackson Hole. When you head back east, you'll want to go a little out of the way up to Hell's Half Acre, then back and go on into Casper. Once you get to Casper, you can take I-25 down into Colorado and figure it out from there.

I lived in Wyoming for a few years back when I was younger and single. I got hooked up with a nurse in Casper and nearly every weekend we took off to go see something in Wyoming. This was back in the mid '80's. We stayed in Bed & Breakfast joints all over the state, and none of them were ever more than about $30 a night. That was for the two of us and a great big German Shepherd. They would feed you breakfast and make sure the dog had something to eat as well. We partied in Buffalo, Thermopolis, Hell's Half Acre, and many other places too. The route I laid out above will take you through the prettiest part of the state and you'll be in the mountains a lot of the way.

I have always said that if I were to ever move from Texas, I would move to Wyoming. The people are very receptive, honest and down to earth. And for the most part, they are really happy that you are there.

We also hit devil's tower when we went. Forgot about that. That was what I was saying about there being more to do in the area than a week will allow.

You could vaca on Port A or Padre during Spring Break. That's always been a fun experience for me at least.
