Ouch that does seem way too high. I bought mine from farris auto salvage in irving,Tx for $350 plus tax. I know they have some more there but I think he said he would be selling them for $500 last I talked to him. I would call them and talk to miguel tell him a buddy of yours bought one a little while back and see what kind of deal he will make you. What kind of rear axle are you using? I need to get rid of the 3 spares I have at the house.I guess I am off to the classifieds section. :)

i am going to use a 8.8 in the rear of this truck. i have a 9 inch now with 307's but i think i am going to go with a 8.8 with atleast 355 or 373. think that will help with the gas mileage situation. not running in power band of motor and trans. did this with a jeep i built and went from 11-12 mpg to 17-19 mpg just changing rear ends to a lower gear ratio. doesn't make much sense but i sure did work.

carcrafter22 06-14-2008 11:19 PM

I have a couple 8.8's I am going to be gettin rid of very soon if your interested, one has 3.73 and posi.

I finally made it home yesterday and started back on the truck this morning. I finished several things like the tranny shift linkage, backup light switch, throttle linkage bracket, shutdown mechanism installed, starter and shutdown mechanism relays and a few other things. I just need to make the new fuel tank sending unit I decided to make and I will post up some video of the truck running. Tomorrow will be busy but it will be worth it.

This is all the wiring that is needed to start and stop the Isuzu 3.9L diesel. One relay is used to turn the starter and the other is used to activate the "kill solenoid" that pulls a cable on the injection pump and turns the diesel off when I turn the key to the off position.

That thing in the upper left corner of the shot next to the hood hinge is the "kill solenoid" notice the cables coming out of it, one for turning the motor off and the other for fuel enrichment.

This is just a shot of where I relocated the power steering reservoir. I didnt like it on the fender so close to the intercooler tubing so I moved it in front of the engine. I like it here and I finally found a dual fan setup from Jegs that will allow me let the plastic canister fit there.

crafter would like to talk to you bout the 8.8s. might take one off of your hands. read the article bout the irs for these trucks. looks pretty simple. plates look easy to make also. looks like 3/8 flat plate, 4 inch round tubing and 4x4 square tubing and some welding and there you have it. might try that later dont see need now. i like the way you are going with the lowering of the 8.8. i talked to the guys at champion springs in fort worth and they suggested bagging it with a mono leaf. using the leaf to keep the truck centered. just a thought.

Do ou have a link for this?

carcrafter22 06-15-2008 05:42 PM

I will send you my number to talk about the rear axles.

I have thought of doing a 4 link rear suspension with bags, but I have pretty much made up my mind that if I dont like how this setup rides I am going to install the lincoln IRS and install bags at all 4 corners at the same time. I came very close to installing the lincoln IRS in the first place but didnt want to have to worry about exhaust clearance with it. I have just made up my mind that I want a smooth ride and will almost never tow anything with this truck since I have my chevy 2500HD for that, besides I should be able to tow light things with the IRS all I will have to do is air the bags up a little more :D

I havent gottem anything done today since I have been with my dad all day shooting our new matching pistols we bought. I will be posting some new progress pics by tomorrow though and hopefully the running video.

Thanks that looks like a cool up grade. As long as you aint going to haul much.

carcrafter22 06-18-2008 01:38 AM

Here is how I hacked up one of the crossmembers so I could level out the fuel tanks and gain some ground clearance.

http://inlinethumb21.webshots.com/57...425x425Q85.jpg

Here is the crossmember reinforced with 3/16th steel wich is much thicker than the factory 1/8th steel.

An overall shot of the fuel tank in place. The tank now sits almost perfectly level and has more than enough ground clearance even with the truck lowered.

Here is my cool little custom fuel sending unit that is made from aluminum. This solved several problems with the ranger tank and allows me to use a standard gm fuel level gauge.
