Today I had a guy ask me if my truck was for sale. He's a contractor working on the house next door, and he saw it while he was working on the roof. Said he used to have an 85 F250 4x4 with the Explorer package that he bought brand new. He said he really missed that truck and was looking for another one.
Of course I told him no, but it was nice to meet a local person that really appreciates these trucks. :) |
Got the truck into the garage and am beginning to it apart. Currently trying to remove all exterior trim moulding. Ford sure didn't make it easy...

Filled the gas tank up yesterday, checked all fluids and topped off coolant reservoir today. Been driving it A LOT lately. Yesterday when I got back in the truck to leave the gas station some mexicans in a brand new black suburban pull up next to me and ask me if I want to sell my truck. I yelled HELL NO through the windows and they laughed and drove off to go inside. I seem to get 2-3 occurrences a year like that.

I finally got the chance to test my f350 out on some dirt and other off road obstacles. I took it with me on my first trip to the prairie city ohv park near Sacramento. Interesting experience for me. Only $5 to get into a state park that allows and encourages you to four wheel and tear up their trails??? I'll definitely be back. My only other wheeling experiences are from high school, trying to not attract the sheriffs attention at a gravel quarry.
The 350 did excellent, my new rear end is open, but the po told me the front diff is welded.. Which seemed to work out excellent for me, except for trying to make tight turns. It easily crawled up paths in Lo range:1st gear without me even having to touch the throttle. I got home and retorqued the lug nuts and ubolts, two of which stripped out. Now I'm in need of direction on where to buy high quality grade 8 ubolts. Need to fit a sterling 3.5" wide and be at least 12" tall (4"lift blocks..... I know I want them gone too) I also would like 5/8" threads. Anyone out there have any suggestions? Nothing to the truck today, but did just finish draining nasty fuel out of my '56. I still don't know how that much water got into the fuel tank. The car isn't on the road it just sits in the driveway till I get everything finished to put her on the road.
The fuel cap is loose don't know why it doesn't fit tight but I don't see how rain could have got into the tank through the cap when it has a lip that fits down past the neck of the filler neck. |

I went to the JY today, didn't get anything. They wanted $50 for a front sway bar. I don't think I need one that badly. However what did interest me is this weirdo engine in a 72 F350 crew cab, the steering column it had was from a Cadillac, and the seats were, too.

Probably is a GM given the QJet. This site says it may be a Caddy since it looks like it has 9 valve cover bolts.

It also has a vertical fuel pump bolt pattern and the oil filter is on the passenger side that angles out to the front. Looks like it in there with the stock mounting location very well surprisingly. Upon searching it looks to be a 500 CI Cadillac V8

How long's it been sitting? You in Houston or some equally humid place? Did it have ethanol in it? Phase separation is especially bad with that stuff. :-6 |

Did it have ethanol in it? Phase separation is especially bad with that stuff. :-6 9 out of 10 small engines people bring me to work on have phase separation. The carburetors are plugged up and water is sitting in the bottom of the fuel tank and in the carb bowl. Nasty garbage. |

Phase separation is especially bad with that stuff. :-6 I made adjustments on the carb but it has a unstable idle speed and the idle mixtre screws set at 3 turns from seating results in a engine that starts up and stalls out. I even took the idle screws out almost all the way and it still wouldn't hold a steady rpm. so I will be checking sparkplugs, point gap, and timing on sunday if I have time. I took the top of the 2bbl autolite carb off and checked it there wasn't anything wrong appearing in the carb bowl. I am also in Houston and it is that stupid ethanol blended fuel. |
