Glenn, you can use your headstuds again. I've used and reused ARP studs and bolts many times with no problems. Smaller bolts like rod bolts will stretch easier and can only be used a certain amount of times ( until they have been stretched too much).

Thanks Darin, after posting I went to ARP's site and read this:

Are ARP bolts and studs re-usable?
Yes. As long as the fasteners have been installed and torqued correctly, and show no visible signs of damage, they can be re-used. If they show any signs of thread galling or corrosion, they should be replaced. In the case of rod bolts, if any of them have taken a permanent set and have stretched by .001” or longer, you should replace them immediately. See page 29 in the catalog for more detailed information on this critical measurement.

Yeah that being low miles would slow me down too on making a decision. If they were close that would be one thing but the fact there's considerable difference in the 2 then it deserves more thought. I know your coach is a 5er, but would there be room for the motor and trans in the bed? I don't know a lot about them. Lol.

I think mine has more miles than both put together. Lol. That's my only complaint about my truck, wish it was lower. I don't think I would be dealing with a lot of the issues I'm having right now if it was lower. But wish in one hand, crap in the other and see which one fills first. Lol.

It's like anything, a million ways to do it, and not all of them wrong. But determining what's best, that's considerably more effort lol.

Yea, about the time I get to AZ then back to Mi and then back to AZ it will have 100K on it. The Mare has 201K.

I can tell you which hand will fill up first but you already know the answer :-kneeslap

Thanks guys! Your votes of confidence makes me feel better about it.......it really does. I appreciate it more than you guys know. It is a hard time right now being away from my family, starting a new job and practically a new life. With all the uncertainties and not knowing what will happen when, and when I'll actually be able to resume a somewhat normal life, every little bit helps.

I know that these little camper walls can start to close in on you. On top of that it can be lonely. I bet your wife is supporting you 110% which helps a lot to keep you going. A couple of rough years and you'll be on top of the world again.

the official "the I should be working on my truck instead of typing thread"

Glad to hear everything is working out fer ya bill! Chipping away at Mt Rushmore

Same goes for you Glenn lol

If I were to put in a vote, I'd say keep your low mileage engine and swap it over. I know it's a LOT of work but I'd be a little more confident in a low mileage motor. Especially since it's the main reason your paid what you did for that truck lol. If it had a low mileage 460 in it, it'd been 1/4 the price!

That's what I'm thinking right now JP. Tomorrow it might be different, LOL.

Well OK, Bryon has me thinking now (dangerous), should I put in my Hydra? What do you guys think?

LOL Glenn! Didn't mean to make those wheels start turning! I just figured you would not be able to put up with the stock truck after driving you been driving for the last few years.

oldbird1965 07-30-2015 09:36 PM

Oh I know its going to be a slow go, probably will not ever see 4th unless its down hill or tail wind.

fordman67 07-30-2015 11:03 PM

If you do the hydra just get on php and get some tunes for a stock truck.I think that'll be free and prob work better considering stock sticks vs the ol stage 2s.

Once I get done with all this BS north of Detroit we will make our usual stops and finally from SD head to AZ in Oct. I'm hoping to get all the stuff off of the Mare in a few weeks.
