Scott: Thanks for your note. Performance parts seem almost non-existent! I lucked on this motor, finding it in a 48 REO I purchased. Too good, and rare, to not make work again. I'm confident a 226 performance intake can be ported to fit the slightly larger 254 ports. I suppose a 226 head could be milled out to the 254 cylinder size if you knew what you were doing (not me). If you end up making one up, I'd be real interested in learning how it worked out for you. For now I'm going to rebuild it stock while the search for goodies continues. Regards, John

Hi John, the intake and carb, T98 tranny and 1949/50 F6 parts truck I got it from, all pointed to it being a 254. I then pulled the head and saw it was a 226. So I'm on a quest for a 254 again. The speed equipment and pic you may be talking about is from a speed shop over on the East coast. Most performance parts for the 254 are marine applications, and fairly rare. I think I saw your ad on the HAMB, and all I can say is keep trying. Meanwhile, I'm looking at getting a 254 from Wayne (52 merc) and when I do, I'll use the utensils at work (machine shop) to template a head, and then figure a better chamber for it. We get big chunks of aluminum every once in a while, so it's not totally out of the question, but so far just a hope at this point. I think they're way overlooked for their popularity, and hold great potential for traditional performance. Good luck!, Scott
