    About your hitch question. I have neither but have been very impressed with the Equalizer hitch, which I use with an 8,000 lb (loaded) boat trailer behind our Expedition. The rig was squirrelly without it and is just not with it - essentially as stable as unloaded. While a lighter load than you have, the Expedition is also a much lesser vehicle than an Excursion.
