    TMeyer, Inc. - 400 Ford Engine Project
    the link above is the best source for info on the 400.
    i spoke to him about the swap you are planning on doing.

    the only difference between the 351M and 400 is the pistons, AND Crank

    351 crank is 3.5 inch stroke.
    400 crank has a 4.0 inch stroke.

    pistons have a diferent height from wrist pin to top of piston.

    if you change the crank to a 400 crank and not use pistons designed for the 400,
    the 351M pistons will be sticking out past the desk at highest point of the
    stroke. this will cause them to crash in to your head.

    other than that everything else is the same. EVERYTHING.
