I need your help again. Got some issues. 95 bronco, 351w 5.8l, Put on a edelbrock performer intake, K&n cold air, long tube headers. Took off my smog and egr. Engine is running rough. Rail PSI, on it reads 38psi running it drops to 30-31. Vacuum line removed from FPR, 38 on, 41-42 running. Guys say its a lean miss. suggested bigger injectors, currently 19#. Any help is appreciated - Thanks
Unless you intend to change the rear axle ratio I'd suggest using a C6 instead, the overdrive ratio in the AOD is much deeper than the M5(0.68 vs 0.8) so OD will be useless at anything below 80mph. With the physically shorter C6 you just might get away with not changing the driveshaft and cross member though I don't know that for certain.
you seem to be really sharp on these 87 to 91 trucks and id really like your opinion if i could get it... i have an 88 f150 2wd with the 4.9 and an m5od and 3.08 gears, everything is is good working order but im having a tough tim teaching my wife to drive it so im kicking the thought around of converting it to aod, being ocd i want it to look factory so ofcourse ill be changing the steering column. ive done alot of research but i cant find the answer im looking for, everyone else wants to go from automatic to a manual ,so the question i have is... will i have to shorten or lengthen the driveshaft? and will the current transmission cross member work or will i have to get one off of an aod truck?
You can't mix upper and lower portions of any of these intakes you have to use the matching upper and lower for whatever you decide to go with. The 5.0 truck version is the best of the 3.. bigger runners than any other and a much better designed lower section.. and all the wiring and cable connections are compatable with whats in your truck now. The Explorer intake uses a single throttlebody and the wiring and cable connections are different so you would have additional mods to complete, and of course that also means the intake tubes and air filter box would no longer work either.
have another intake question for you. my truck is a 91 f350 with 5.8. i have found a set of gt40 heads for $80 at th local pick-n-pull. The intake you recomend, is the 5.0 truck intake; do you mean of an f150 or can the explorer intake work with the 5.8 truck lower? would rather recieve a phone call so i can ask questions directly and faster. thanks 919-871-5801 Christain
Thank you again, a lot of my miles are highway miles. I was going to do gears but figured lets get the headers in and see how it performs. If figure I will have to do them anyway,
Longtubes will put some pep in the trucks stride but that's about it you need a gear change more than anything else, assuming stock tire was 31" 4.10s will get back factory performance and most of the fuel milage.
I hoping for your advise. I have read too many threads with conflicting info. I have read most of yours. I have a 95 bronco auto 4x4. new 351w long block going in. You have stated that getting these puppies to breath is the key to unlocking them. I will be putting on pacesetter long headers and thats about it. mech suggested, intake and ignition as well. I will be getting rid of the smog pump but will keep the EGR. The bronco will be my daily driver, its lifted running 35x12.5. I live in florida, warm and flat. stock everything else even the 3.55 gears ??? I really dont need or want to spent the money for better performance. am I on the right track or spinning wheels? Thank you for your time.
There are carb style EFI intakes that will give you that look without sacrificing EFIs superior driveability, and any 302 carb intake will bolt right on as well, but both of those options will further kill low rpm power.. something this displacement is already lacking when it comes to truck performance.
