    Thanks Jim. My other thought was to disconnect the batt wire from the alt and see if the batt keeps its charge.

    The diode in the Alt may be leaking current and that will kill your battery. In the morning feel the alt if it is slightly warmer than the air / rest of the engine the diode is the culpret. This way us a "poor mans" way of checking.
