    hey I was reading a post you replied to about doing a rear mine seal install on a 5.4 f150 I just didn't mine and rolled the seal so I have to pull the tranny to do it again I was wondering what tool were you talking about for the install do you know where i can pick one up if is what is the item called thanks for your time.

    I know the FPDM's go bad in these trucks, also injectors clog, as well as over time they have back fuel pressure sensors in them. But none of these common problems convince me the problem leads to them due to the truck running great when I run seafoam in the gas tank.

    I have a 2006 with the 5.4 and I have done the same all 8 plugs, 8 cop's, i have changed a few injectors yet I still get misfires. Now when I run injector cleaner or Sea foam in my truck it runs fantastic for about 500 miles, about a full tank and a half then my problem comes back. When i changed the plugs about 2000 miles ago I found a few broken plugs, can assume that this caused my passenger side Cat to go bad? Causing a very slight break down at idle, then on the highway under slight load i get a check engine light flash throwing misfire codes, but if I keep her under 60mph in OD she runs fine with still a very slight break down causing the engine to shimmy but no buck. I hooked up to my car trailer this weekend, when i got on the highway and got it up to 65 I instantly got misfires. It seems you are a well educated 5.4 guy, could you please provide further info that would be great!

    I noticed in your sig that you mention the updated VCT solenoids. I have a 2004 Lariat with the 5.4 and it has 163k on it. I am the original owner. It seems to sound ok to me other than a dull knock sound after it has warmed up. I have used the MC 5W-20 and a FL-820S filter changed every 5k since new. I add about 1/2 qt after 3k to bring it back up to the full mark between changes. My question is..........It has the original VCT solenoids in it. I bought the newer "B" version. Would you advise me to change them out? After owning the truck for 10 years, I have decided to basically do a bunch of preventive maintenance in hopes it will last me to 200k or more. Thanks for any response as I can tell from your posts that you are very knowledgable on these trucks/engines.

    I saw your earlier post on Transit Connect transmission problems. I have a 2012 Transit and just had a transmission rebuild due to the small OD band and low line pressure. The clutches and OD band were burnt. I had taken it to the dealer twice while under warranty and they couldn't determine the problem. I then took it to NTB twice and they only replaced engine mounts shaken loose due to the transmission problem. I then took it to a transmission shop 3 separate times before the problem could be identified. They found the TSB on the problem and said that fluid was not getting to the right places due to low line pressure and that eventually burned up my transmission. The OD failed as well. To correct the problem they had a machine shop drill larger holes for installing more heavy duty pressure solenoid and OD. I have spent thousands of dollars and it seems to me that these problems are design flaws and that I have a legitimate lemon law claim. Do you agree?

    You seem to know a lot about the Ford 5.4 3v motors. I have a 2005 f150 with a 5.4 3v motor. The passenger timing chain guide broke and put a hole in my valve cover. I took the valve cover off along with the timing cover. I replaced the guide and put it back together. It idled rough. I then took it back apart and replaced the cam phaser the and chain and the tensioner.while doing this the camshaft moved.i did mark it before I began but was unable to get it back to where it was. I put the new chain,tensioner,and phaser on I got the marks on the chain to line up according to the Chilton manual I brought but when I turn the motor over by hand it doesn't feel right. Now I am worried I my have bent something. I really hate to other you but I have no one I can ask for advise.

    I just replaced both VCT's and started engine and she runs rough. P0345,p0349 codes. Would a bad cam position sensor make it run rough? I'm positive it went back together with all marks lined up.

    I hope you do not mine me pm you. I am currently rebuilding a 2005 5.4 3 valve engine. It had to be bored 30 over due to 7 ring coming apart. I am replacing everything in the motor but crank and rods. I am going with comp cam MT273LL cam cam phaser limiter kit and matching valve springs from them. I will also be installing new cam phasers. My question is do you know where I can get a video or detailed instructions on how to get the timing correct when I am assembling the motor. Any help would be great. Sorry for the long message just wanting to give all the details.
