Thanks for your help on the transmission/TC issue! I posted some better pictures of the metal tabs if you get a chance to take a look

    Hello Mark

You responded to my post last Oct about my son's '99 F250 4r100.

We found the low frictions were completely worn. The "hub" of the forward drum cracked, allowing fluid to leak by the 2 sealing rings.

I replaced the forward drum, all frictions, steels, sealing rings, new pump stator and gears. Installed "Tugger" kit and new TC .

It didn't work. The truck it will not move in forward or reverse. Line pressure shows 20-30psi in neutral/park, 40-50psi in reverse or drive. Book says 17.7 qts of fluid, we put in 18.

I used the ASTM book. Everything made sense and went together smoothly. Iv'e been a machinist for 35 yrs, and have rebuilt a few automatics already. Obviously I did something wrong this time.

Can you think of anything I can check with the tranny still in the truck? At first I thought we got a bad new TC, but then found that it was low on pressure.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Mark-

read alot of your posts, new to this board, on a few others & lurk here:

1997 4WD F350 PS run hard acceleration in reverse with a big load & heard a bit of a rattle noise after let off the pedal that lasted for about 5 seconds. drove normal after but hour later hauling load up hills 15 miles later, temps went up fast to 240 and lost power at the transmission, dumping fluid from cover. shut it down, towed it home, drove off the truck, behaved like no fluid. dropped the trans, think front seal is leaking, fluid not burnt and fairly red, last change was at around 40k with temps 190 average & 220 occasional. ~100+hp over stock in mods. Plan to replace the seal and put it back on the truck. Any checks I should do while it is off? inspect the internals? TC looks good with no loose parts or other metal pieces in the case. Transmission was shifting great with no issue before and even up to power loss. previous owner claimed to have replaced/rebuilt transmission about 70k ago.

    Hello Mark,

I had a quick question for you. I have an 03 F250 with a 5.4 that needs a tranny. That tranny should be a 4r100 correct? On last question I know of a parts truck but it is a 2000 with a v10 is that tranny also a 4r100? Thank you in advance!!

    Best Regards,

    could you help ?
    2006 F250 4x4 , 165k miles , original tranny
left a stop sign at normal speed.. loud pop ... all forward gears and reverse GONE!
I had local shop rebuilt tranny. All forward gears work great but have a TC lock-up in reverse until the tranny heats up.. then it acts fine in reverse..

any help would be greatly appreciated..

Good Morning Mark. Did some more checking. The transfer case is stuck in 4WD LO and there are aluminum pieces and plastic in the bottom of the transfer case. The range shift fork obviously broke which is probably why it is stuck in low and sometimes neutraling out. (Range Gear Floating) Going to pull the case and see what damage is done and rebuild if it is salvageable. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the confirmation Mark. 11/00 is the manufacturer date on the the decal inside the driver's door sill. At least now I know not to go spending time/money chasing solenoids or sensors. I have a great deal of faith in the 4R100 and have had several that were dealt quite a bit of abuse without complaint. This is my first. I suppose I also need to find a cooler now. Thanks again.
