I'd suggest you go back to the original computer if you have not already, and then check fuel pressure and base timing. If you put #1 piston(pass side front) at TDC on the compression stroke the timing pointer should indicate 0 on the crank balancer and the rotor button should be pointing at the #1 post on the distributor cap. If the distributor was never pulled from the motor those should all line up but if it was it could be off by any amount. BTW... the plug firing order on that 302 is 15426378 which is different than what the 5.8 had. Also note the cylinders are numbered 1-4 on the pass side front to back and 5-8 on drivers side front to back, and the distributor rotates counter clockwise, so to advance timing turn it clockwise.

Did you use any wiring that came with the 302? If so that is no good you need to remove it and install the engine harness the truck cam with.

    Hey Conanski,
i'm new here and it seems like you're the guy to talk to about most stuff. I saw your post in a thread about the custom y pipe you did and was wondering if you could inform me on the specs of the piping you used and how well the system works for you.

I'll give that a shot. Thanks
It's a Mark III conversion van, pretty much intact, she has the beefier (rv) frame and suspension package. 11 city 16 highway is pretty much what Ford says I should get for this set up. Was getting 17 - 18 on the highway. I inspected the plugs and they were soot covered (not fouled yet) which is why I replaced the FPR. I'll check for vacuum leaks and see where that road loses me : ).
    Thanks again,
    Joe

No need to take the engine out to install headers.. unless they break off bolts for the exhaust manifolds of course. The stock cam in this motor is very good, if anything it just needs some more valve lift so adding 1.7 rockers is a good option.
