    Hi Mark-

read alot of your posts, new to this board, on a few others & lurk here:

1997 4WD F350 PS run hard acceleration in reverse with a big load & heard a bit of a rattle noise after let off the pedal that lasted for about 5 seconds. drove normal after but hour later hauling load up hills 15 miles later, temps went up fast to 240 and lost power at the transmission, dumping fluid from cover. shut it down, towed it home, drove off the truck, behaved like no fluid. dropped the trans, think front seal is leaking, fluid not burnt and fairly red, last change was at around 40k with temps 190 average & 220 occasional. ~100+hp over stock in mods. Plan to replace the seal and put it back on the truck. Any checks I should do while it is off? inspect the internals? TC looks good with no loose parts or other metal pieces in the case. Transmission was shifting great with no issue before and even up to power loss. previous owner claimed to have replaced/rebuilt transmission about 70k ago.

    Hello Mark,

I had a quick question for you. I have an 03 F250 with a 5.4 that needs a tranny. That tranny should be a 4r100 correct? On last question I know of a parts truck but it is a 2000 with a v10 is that tranny also a 4r100? Thank you in advance!!

    Best Regards,
    Brandon

    could you help ?
    2006 F250 4x4 , 165k miles , original tranny
left a stop sign at normal speed.. loud pop ... all forward gears and reverse GONE!
I had local shop rebuilt tranny. All forward gears work great but have a TC lock-up in reverse until the tranny heats up.. then it acts fine in reverse..

any help would be greatly appreciated..

Good Morning Mark. Did some more checking. The transfer case is stuck in 4WD LO and there are aluminum pieces and plastic in the bottom of the transfer case. The range shift fork obviously broke which is probably why it is stuck in low and sometimes neutraling out. (Range Gear Floating) Going to pull the case and see what damage is done and rebuild if it is salvageable. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the confirmation Mark. 11/00 is the manufacturer date on the the decal inside the driver's door sill. At least now I know not to go spending time/money chasing solenoids or sensors. I have a great deal of faith in the 4R100 and have had several that were dealt quite a bit of abuse without complaint. This is my first. I suppose I also need to find a cooler now. Thanks again.

    GEAR - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES P0781, P0755
    AND/OR P0756 - VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4R100

Some 2001 vehicles equipped with 4R100 transmission, having a transmission build date between 7/27/2000 and 3/23/2001, may exhibit an intermittent, delayed or no second gear condition. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) that may be set with this concern are P0781 (1-2 shift error), P0755 (shift solenoid B malfunction) and P0756 (shift solenoid B performance). This may be caused by the Intermediate One Way Clutch (mechanical diode style) not operating properly.

    Mark,
I had similar thoughts wrt 1-2 shifts. Unfortunately there's no interstate that runs straight up to BTS, so I'll probably remove & replace in the driveway (not looking forward to that). Or maybe just local (bts is $$$). I was referring to the failure prone mechanical diode. Now I'm about as ignorant as one can get when it comes to the inner workings of an automatic tranny, but I had always seen/heard (powerstroke/f150/nloc/LR/etc..) that Ford's 4R100 problems were produced between July 2000 - Mar 2001. With a Nov. 2000 build date, that puts me right smack in the middle. I've pasted the TSB below. If not the md, do you have any other suspicions? Thanks again for responding Mark!
