What would you recommend for spring weights?

Yes with upgraded springs it'll be fine, but don't use dual springs or you will have binding problems with the valve stem seals, instead use a heavier set of single springs.

I forgot to add I'll be putting on new springs. If I install springs that can handle the lift, 1.7s shouldn't be a problem?

You can't use 1.7 rockers with that cam and stock springs but it's not because of valve clearance it's because of coil bind.

Is it likely that I'll have clearance issues with the 35-512-8, GT40 heads, and 1.7s? I'm getting a set of GT40s and all they need is rocker arms.

So what would be a good set of springs to install.

I believe the stock springs can handle that cam, a little heavier single spring wouldn't be wasted money if you had high milage heads but it's not necessary.

Should I replace the valve springs with anything specific for the Comp Cams 35-512-8? The engine is remanufactured and only has about 3 or 4k miles on it.

Oh that's simple enough. They should've came of all truck small blocks, not just Explorer 5.0s. Thanks for the help, buddy.

Yes just re route the plug wires, the injectors are batch fired and those batches are the same for both firing orders right from the factory. Yep GT40 heads will help too, IMO all 5.8s should have come with them anyway.
