Hello all. I'm always looking for new ideas and new ways to use common parts to improve on things . I found this site and looked around on here. I found the topic of the steering rack and pinion mounted to the straight axle. The kit was a little pricy for me so I built my own mount , bought a used manual rack built a bracket mounted it ,shortened the inner tie rods and took it for a ride . It works very well . My cost was 44.00 for the used rack . being a welder , I had a scrap piece of 4" by 3" angle iron for the mounting plate. I bought 2 trailer u bolts to secure it to the I beam axle for about 80.00 total. I put 80 miles on it the first day. I've done lots of cost cutting things and am willing to share my ideas .These old trucks are fun to build and drive. I'm looking for parts for my 1952 F1. I'm retired so I now have time to think.
