I found your write up (while searching the forums) about your front springs bowing on your build (early Ford), may I ask what the fix was? I just recently got a 78 Bronco and changed the radius arm bushings (4 degree) and I'm have the same issue. It has a 6in lift with radius arm drop brackets.

thank you in advance for any help.

I am having a guy cut out a firewall reinforcement plate on his plasma table.

The plate I put in does help but it is insufficient for the long term.

Thought of this conversation today when a guy with a 302 and an NP435 couldn't get the tranny in reverse. Turned out his firewall is cracked and the clutch M/C is moving a bunch. As I said, it isn't the size of the tranny but the fact that the firewall wasn't designed for those fore/aft forces. Nor was yours. The plate for ours wraps around the corner a bit and ties into the tranny tunnel. That gives it a lot more strength fore/aft than just a flat plate.
