My 6.4 had major trouble with the DPF system, and EGR Cooler/Valve. It seemed they could never identify the real problems, and as a result, I was back at the dealer maybe 8 times. Total disaster. To me, I believe that when you have EGR cooler troubles, it gets water through the motor, and inadvertinly ruins the DPF. Also, water through the motor is not good. My truck smoked/steamed from like day 2. At 23,000 miles, I told them to keep it. My dealership was really good about it. They gave me a 2011 F350 with the 6.2 and kept my payments the same. Didn't cost me a nickle.
I am in the process of a Ford buy back on my 2008 F250 6.4 and will be doing the same as you and replace the 6.4 with a 6.2. What was your cause for replacement and how long did it take and were you fulley compensated ??
