Any way to tell if I have a BTS Tranny?

Is there any way to tell from...

Is there any way to tell from looking at the tranny if it is a BTS tranny?

When I bought my 2000 used in 2008, I was new to the Ford truck world The truck had 189k. The PO was telling me the history of the truck and said when they bought the truck with 80k the tranny was bad and he had it replaced. I think I remember him saying it was a special transmission and could swear he said Brian's Truck Stop. This of course meant nothing to me at the time, but Brian's Truck Stop was an odd name which is why I think I remember it.

Couple this with my truck now has 290k (210k miles since the tranny change) and it has been a daily driver and regularly tows my 34 foot, 11k lb toy hauler up and down the mountains of AZ. The tranny shifts strong and has never given me the slightest issue. I don't baby this thing at all.

Would be nice to know if there is some identifying mark or feature that would allow you to identify a BTS tranny by just looking underneath.

Steering Stabilizer Benefits?

Okay I had read a few threads...

Okay I had read a few threads on here about upgrading the stock steering stabilizer. I always assumed my truck had a factory one, however when changing the oil the other day I realized it doesn't have one at all!I thought they all came with one, but apparently not. Will I see any benefits adding a stabilizer to a relatively stock truck? It does have 285/75/16 tires, but the rest of the suspension is stock. It doesn't seem to drive terribly rough for a truck of this size. Any input or ideas? Will it drive better or will I be better off spending my money elsewhere?
Thanks

Curious about what happened,...

Curious about what happened, but after two days of towing, everything going great, start off in southern Colorado and boost is down(<5) and egts higher. From Houston 'till then, boost was normally 7-8 at 65, would go up to 12-15 when slight accel or hill. Would know for sure because Wicked wheel does whistle! This is a 12k 5vr and 60t tunes. Noticed fuel psi down to 50-55, usually around 60. EGT's get 1100-1300 pretty easily, really had to watch throttle on hills. I looked at the boots when we stopped, nothing obvious, but we are settled now so I will have time to check further.
Thoughts?
We are an hour out of Fort Collins, and if an AE would help maybe a selling point with wife.
Thanks.

Well guys I sold the truck in...

Well guys I sold the truck in my sig thinking I would get something smaller but needless to say I dont think that's happening. I love the conveinence of owning a truck and it fits me well (6'4") I definitely wanted something a bit better on gas so I was thinking about a 7.3. I've done some research about mpg and oil changes but are there other regular costs I'm missing. What I've figured is that by running a diesel il save 5$ on every 100 miles if the difference between fuels is .50$ and a gas gets 12mpg and a diesel gets 16. Please correct me if I'm wrong all im really trying to do is understand the cost of ownership compared to a gas. If its better or close il be buying one. We only run 7.3s at work so I know what a great engine it is and really enjoy driving them. Thanks guys I appreciate it

I went to start my 2000 F350 with 287k miles this morning after it had been sitting for a couple days. I may have gotten 1 revolution before I heard a thunk and then nothing. The starter engages but wont turn over the motor. I thought the batteries might be dead so I put a charger on them and they are fully charged. I can feel the starter trying to turn the motor but it just can't. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

i have an early 99 7.3. a couple times after work I have noticed truck smokes when started looks blue and smelled more of fuel and not coolant.cleaned up after getting warm, but rough idle and code p1247(low boost). took to a shop ,buzz test found #7 weak injector. it has 345k on it so I ordered a set of new injectors. while I am waiting for new swamps injectors two days go by and three cylinders filled with coolant all to the rear of the engine. it filled from the top down not cylinder first so I rule out head gasket.I suspected cups and purchased the tool so I can replace them as some here and elswhere suggest doing so when doing injectors. question is can coolant flow into a cylinder from another source in the injector area?

Can anyone plese explain the...

Can anyone plese explain the difference in the 1999 injection and the 2000 and newer injection? I was told that the '99 will not get good fuel economy due to this injection thing.

Any truth to that? Anyone have a stock 1999 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel (manual tranny) that can fill me in on what to expect fuel economy wise? Anyone know the difference in these injectors from that year to the next or from whenever it was changed?

I really appreciate any and all help. I'm buying my first F250 and coincidentally my first diesel, would like to know what I'm getting into.

Also, there is a 2001 7.3 with an automatic tranny for $5400. Supposedly nothing is wrong with it but that cost is near half of the KBB value. I haven't gotten a chance to test either of these out but I will within a day or two. Any insight on the automatic would be appreciated as well, such as how long the tranny might last if it was not abused.

Thanks.

After driving 2 V-8 Explorers...

After driving 2 V-8 Explorers over 200,000 each, I finally bought an Excursion. Should have bought one to begin with!!!! I have a 2000 7.3 with just over 200k. I have owned several months and it has ran great, till recently. This may sound odd I don't know. Since the weather has gotten warmer it is intermittently bucking, cutting out, and even dieing at times. I have changed filters and all the things I could think of by reading the forums here. It is not consistent. It does not do it everyday. It only bucks/surges under acceleration. I have had a friend who owns a shop code it, but no codes appear. Could this be electrical? Several Injector Control pieces were replaced by the dealership before I bought the Ex. I am looking for any advice as to where to track this random gremlin down. If you push the Accelerator to the floor when it is acting up it immediately clears it's throat and goes, if that helps.

THANKS :-banghead
