I believe you are right on both counts. That development happened after I left Ford, so I really don't know the details.

Is the 4F27E the transmission used in the 2000-present Focus?
Was the 4F72E jointly developed by Mazda?
If this is true; I find that our brand new 2010 Focus (on the updated C170 platform) has a manual-like shift feel due to the the hydraulic control system of having six electronically controlled solenoids for shift feel (through line pressure control), shift scheduling (through shift valve position control) and TCC apply, controlled by pulse-width modulation

The Ax4S was used in the Windstar. I don't know why they didn't use the Duratec in the Windstar.
The Windstar didn't share anything with the Explorer as far as I know.
The trans with the 460 V8 was the E4OD, not the AODE or the 4R70W.

Was the AX4S used in the 1998 model year Windstar?
Why was the 3.8 used in the Windstar, and never the 3.0 Duratec V6; despite the Taurus/Sable receiving the 3.0 Duratec V6 for the 1996 model year redesign?
Is it actually true that the Windstar also shared parts with the Explorer in addition to the Taurus?
Was the transmission in the Class A motorhome chassis with the 460 V8 in the early '90's the AODE, or the 4R70?

I worked on the AX4S used in the Taurus/Continental/Windstar, then I worked on OBDII for all transmissions, then I worked on the 5R55N in the Lincoln LS, then the TorqShift with the 6.0L, then I worked on transmission cooling, then I left!
