Starter wont stop when engine starts
#16
I would like to say that if your 60 miles in the middle of nowhere and the damn thing won't start, I am going to trust that if hitch a ride to town to buy a new starter and end up cooking thaT one too, hhmmmmm, maybe put a switch to cancel the power supply so that does not happen. I'm a farmer that tries to figure out how to do this with what I have on hand. I don't have a auto-parts store a block away where I can run and cry to. A switch and piece of wire costs about 5 dollars, Done, I can get on with my life. There is a lot to get done in a day, so I don't have alot of time to waste. A simple fix like this could save you a starter or two. Just trying to help out. Besides, if anyone wants to steal my truck, go ahead, just pray u can run faster than a pitch-fork wielding crazy farmer. And also, I can respect it if u want it done properly, but I don't mind a simple fix for now, and fix it properly when I have time. ( farmerized ) Is there a farmer-type section for quick-fixes?

seventysevenf150, I totally understand your point. This is not a truck I even drive right now. What I do right now is only drive it around the lot at work and thats it so I'm not in any need for a really quick fix just want to get it done right and figure out why its doing what its doing. The starter doesnt keep going when I turn the key off either. All it does is when I want to start it and let up on the key to run it keeps turninig over so I have to turn the key off to stop it.

Right on. Thanks for noticing my point, but u can see where im coming from. When its your only vehicle, it needs to be fixed, like yesterday. Its not a proffesional fix but it works. But if theres time, u should fix it right. Sorry I couldn't help..
Sometimes u need to farmerize to customize.

81-f150 explorer, I found my problem thanks to your post. I unhooked the red wire from the module and when I go to start the truck the starter doesnt keep trying to turn the engine over. The plug on the module is all broken so I was able to pull out the red wire from the conector and not the white wire. I'm sure the module is the problem correct sense I can start the truck normal? I just now got around to messing with this. Been busy..

I have a 77 F150. When i turn the key to the start position the started spins but doesn't turn the flywheel. I had a cheap solenoid before and the started would get stuck on from time to time so i would have to bang the solenoid to shut it off. But also my truck would not shut off when i turned the key to the off position. Engine would still run. What could be the issue? I have replaced the solenoid and this solenoid turns my starter but not my flywheel. HELP

I have a 2010 Edge that does this too!!!
I notice it when it is hot outside and the engine is already hot. My Edge came with a factory installed remote starter, and it will not do it if I start it using the remote start which makes me feel that it is something in the ignition switch. email me if you have any thoughts. jdeans31@yahoo.com
