I just got done rebuilding my Dana 60 on my 1990 F250. I added about an inch of lift to my front (it already has 6 inch springs) while I had the truck tore apart. I have a drop bracket for the track bar for a 6 inch lift. Anyway, the track bar is now about a half inch too short. I talked to my buddy that owns a 4x4 shop and he said just eliminate it because the
truck has leaf springs instead of coil springs. He also noted that the track bar is half the length of the drag link, so it is not as effective as it would need to be on a coil spring system.
Has anybody eliminated their track bar on their solid axle leaf sprung truck? Will it put more or less stress on the frame and steering box without the track bar? Any opinions ,input or concerns appreciatted.

Mine is lifted 8" and i still have my trac bar

Now, with that said. I have heard of guys doing away with the trac bar with no issues and also guys doing away with it and having severe issues.

the way i look at is, if Ford put it on, it must do something

 

i heard this over on pirate4x4: if you don't run a trac bar in the front and you have shackles on the front of the springs you will wear out the bushings in the shackles because when you try to steer the truck the axle will try to move side to side

That makes sense being the shacks are so narrow at the top and allow that much more movement

 

I have an Offroad Unlimited Shackle Handler kit in the front of mine which converts from the "A" style shackle to an "H" style shackle. That being said, I want the least ammount of stress on my frame and steering box. I think I will make me a new drop bracket or an adjustable track bar. Thanks.

Most of the guys that have removed the track bar, have trucks with a front shackle reversal.
My 84 has a sky shackle reversal and I am still running a track bar. I have noticed that I need to install an adjustable track bar since my front axle is a little offset. Even with the track bar on my 35" tires (old and may have issues) I would develop a death wobble on certain stretches of road. Since then the roads have been improved and I am running 37's at the moment.

 

Track bar drop bracket is just a flat piece of steel that bolts to the frame, then the trac bar bracket bolts to that

 

How to adjust track arm?

 

The track bar is designed to eliminate side to side movement of the axle. While not required with leaf springs, it will prevent premature wear of parts and breakage. That is why Ford installed them. I would leave it.

 

Ok Im confused have leaf springs tho with a dana 60 swap so u dont need a track arm?

 

If you have the originally designed narrow shackle, then YES

 

What would u consider narrow?

 

Its an "H" shape shackle in the front

 

So you no longer have the stock front shackle?

 

No there stock shackles with 4 " skyjacker leaf springs with dana 60 and 3" blocks on rear
