I have a set of the metal tags that go on the 6-volt generator & starter for my 223-six. Each tag has 2 small twist-type rivets and since there are no existing holes, I am not fond of drilling any holes in these components. Plus I have never installed anything with rivets. Maybe JB Weld is the better alternative. I have received some great help from this forum and always appreciate the feedback.
If the gen. and starter are original, there should be holes. Find a picture of an original to get an idea of where they should be, then look carefully at yours. Chances are, the holes have filled in with gunk/paint, etc. over the years.
Good point and I will put a strong light on them and see if I can locate any holes. God only knows if they are the original...chances are they are not but you never know! Thanks.
I feel kind of dumb for not doing this in the first place but after cleaning the surfaces of the generator and starter, I found the 2 pre-existing holes where the tag was originally mounted. The question I have concerns the twist rivets....how are these installed? Is it a matter of placing the rivet in the hole and giving it a few hits with the hammer or do I need a special tool? Really appreciate the help.

Hi Julie. Yes it does-thank you very much. As soon as I return from my business trip, I will give it a go and hopefully it will be as simple as it appears.
