89 460 in a 95 F150, no spark.
Hi,
I almost have my new wheeler finished and went to start it and it is currently getting no spark. The motor and distributor is an 89 EFI with the distributor mounted module with a 5 spd.
I switched the motor to a 95 or 96 Fuel rail and engine harness, so I am using a ignition module on the fender.
I have the 89 computer and module and the 95 or 96 computer and module for an auto.
The truck currently turns the fuel pump on and off, cranks the motor and all the accessories seem to work fine.
Is my problem the 89 distributor? I have not removed the module, but isn't it just attached to the outside for cooling?

Notice they're not pinned the same. Thinking the 89 ECU won't support the 95 harness w/ remote TFI. The whole thing's got me dizzy, trying to decipher exactly everything you have going here. Wait till one of the more learned boy's take's a crack at it. If it does support it, you'll at least need the correct distributor for the remote TFI. The ECU & harness should match as a rule.

Yeah the distributor has to be connected to the wiring harness but not via the TFI module that's on there now, the remote TFI system has a different wiring harness that connects the ignition pickup inside distributor(PIP module) to the main harness. You can still use the '89 distributor but you have to dismantle it and change the PIP module for one with an external harness connector, or you could simply go get a later distributor for the motor.

Thanks guys.
The 89 distributor has two plugs on it. One for the PIP and the other for the module. The pip plug, plugged directly into the 95 harness and I left the module unplugged at the distributor. Using the firewall one. I will try the distributor from my 90 donor. I did not think the 89 module would go inside the housing.
According to one of the online parts stores, all the EFI 460's use the same distributor. So leaving the the stock module unplugged and plugging in the pip should work.

Does anyone know if the statement I posted earlier about the distributors being the same is true? I do not have complete faith in the auto part stores.
I have not been able to work on the truck where it is stored at lately. Are the 89 and 95 distributors the same? The only difference being that the module is on the distributor in 89 and on the fender in 95?
