FICM burn?

I wanted to check the volatage:
accidentally I grounded the voltage screw( touching the screw and case) there was a spark , no fuses blown , it has 48 volt but the engine NO START.
is it possible that the ficm got burn /went bad during testing and cause a no start condition now ?

It's possible. There is a warning abourt touching the case and the screw at the same time, but I have no clue what damage it could cause to the FICM. I know one or two that have done it and had no damage, but it can happen. You know that there is a FICM relay and 50A fuse under the hood in addition to what's in the cab, right??? In the little black box next to the brake booster. There was a picture posted yesterday of the relay and fuse. Maybe the OP will repost it if you can't figure it out?

I've also read / heard that touching the FICM case when your testing the voltage is a bad thing and normally sparks and electronics mix about as well as oil and water.

Did you check the FICM logic fuse? If the logic fuse (10A I think) is blown the injectors will still buzz when you turn the key but the engine will not start.

Check out Ford TSB 08-26-3 for more FICM diagnostic info.

Also you might check with Swamps, they can provide in-depth diagnostics.

I found coolant inside the FICM!!! accidentally dropped when I disconected the tank's hose, I think- I opened the FICM , I aplied electronics cleaner and it got dry-
Call today to Swamps diesel , thanks Cowboy65 and the guy asked me if I heard the injectors noyse . I said no when the ficm was wet but now all the noises back on again , so he said the ficm is ok . No idea what next.

burned ficm with positive to the case

today i burned my ficm by touching the positive lead to the ficm case ,bad mistake ..done it with a long screwdriver ..discovered that i killed internal grounding inside the ficm ,if i provide external grounding the ficm will give me voltage from making the relay click but no injector noise ,discovered one small component that provides ground to other components but i assume other important components are also burned ,so i may try to do some solder just for the hack of it

1. It got wet inside from coolant?
or
2. You shorted the FICM screw to the case?

If #1 - I'd pull the FICM, open the case up, and try to blow out all the moisture with some compressed air from a can. Then, leave it open inside your house for a day or so, to make sure all the moisture has a chance to dry. Then, reistall and try to start. No harm at all in doing that - just a little time lost if it doesn't work.

If #2, you have no choice but to replace the FICM or send it out to Circuit Board Medics, FICM Repair, FICM Fixer, etc. to be rebuilt.

I can't help but wonder how it got wet inside. My degas bottle has leaked onto the FICM multiple times, and it's never been a problem other than the crusty residue on the outside of the case.

Also, I picked-up a working FICM on ebay for less than $200. Just a thought.

@korean powerstroke

Not sure how much the cost is to ship FICMs from (and back to) Korea, but that is your best bet IMO (as posted on the Org).

I loaned a FICM out some years ago to a forum member and the person I loaned it to obviously did what you did. Quite a few components on both boards were damaged. Sadly he never admitted to doing it. I don't loan out stuff anymore.

I've had that same experience and follow-up policy when it comes to loaning tools, but I make exceptions for certain individuals.
