I usually leave the Ex at home and only take it out for big storms, after hurricanes or if I have to move lots of people or stuff

Love my Excursion. Haven't driven it around in a while, but decided to last night. Was kind of like the "two air bags"...
My other car is one I picked up in February: 1998 VW Jetta TDI. Following all of our extra travel because of the tornado that wrecked our house, it's been great to have because I don't have to stop to get fuel so often. It has a real average of over 50MPG, which I just honestly thought it would never achieve. My high has been about 54MPG with my low being 47...still well over what I thought might be attainable at 42.
Leaves me a little extra money to put into the X over time.

I sold the car in '05 for the same $$ I paid for it, 50K miles later, as it became a little too small for a child seat in the back turned forward.
The new ones are a little larger, have more rear-seat leg room, and a little more cargo area. If you're out for a TDI, buy the wagon. I did a half dozen trips to our place in ne Ontario, Canada fully loaded with chainsaws, outboards, fishing gear, tools and the like. It could go nearly 600 miles prior to refueling when driving on the highway. On several trips, I didn't even buy fuel in Canada (where it's sold by the liter).
