I am planning a 5.8 swap on my 95 F150 and would like to go with a Bassani 581503 Y pipe. Does anyone have this on their truck?
I am curious if it is 2.25 pipes to a 3 inch single like Bassani says on their website, or if it is 2.5 inch pipes to a 3 inch like I have read from other sources. I need to know if it will mate up to the factory 351 manifolds.
I have the off-road version (58150B2) on my '92 F350 w/5.8L engine and stock exhaust manifolds. The Bassani pipe fits like a glove. I wanted to choose my own converter, Magnaflow 59929, that is why I went with the O/R version.
Thanks for the OR Y pipe picture. I need to upload the picture of the catted one that I found. Do you know of a good place to get it thats not 399 for the catted one?
Thats cool. I think I'm going to go with the Bassani one. I'll probably go with the catted one. Is the outlet really 3 inch?
Do you mean 581502 part number?
So it mated up to the stock manifolds with no issue, and there are no clearance issues?
I used part number 58150B2, the y-pipe designed for the Bronco, on my F-350. It fits my F-350 just fine. To tell you the truth I have no idea what the difference is between the 581502 and 581B2 other than my 'B2 does not have the little hanger bracket on the 3" extension pipe as shown in the photo on a previous post.
The pipe bolted up with no problems and yes, the pipe is 3" in diameter. I never measured the down pipes, so I cannot confirm their size. The Bassani pipe designed for the 5.0L requires adapters when using stock manifolds, the pipe for the 5.8L does not have that problem.
My air pump was long gone before I purchased the truck. I had a neighbor weld shut the air tube fitting before installing the y-pipe on my truck. A modern 3-way converter does not really need the extra bit of air to light off faster, IMHO.

When I got mine from Late Model Resto, they had the whole Bassani line for "Our" trucks on through the current Ford line. A week after finaly getting it, I went back to the site & all that was listed was late model Lightnings.
At any rate, I didn't (and wouldn't) get a catted version. I bought a 3 inch Magnaflow cat (non-air port) for under a $100 & put it in where the extension is. That puts it down stream just a tad away from the side of my E4OD. I capped the air injection port with the supplied hose.
When they had them, LMR prices were $179 for reg steel OR pipes & $199 for the SS. Don't remember what the cat versions were, but $399 sounds about right for a reg steel catted pipe & a bargain for stainless.

Yeah, I found this out the hard way. I relied on Bassani's web site (which sez they do!) & their tech support who insisted that the 5.8 needs them. LMR had no idea what I was talking about & I had top order them from mfg.
I'm In the process of doing a 351W swap, block is at the machine shop right now.... I'll be running long tube headers and a "Y" that comes together behind the Tcase right infront of the muffler..
I am thinking the same thing , why do just the Y pipe with no headers ?? rla 2005 how much gain with the pipes & exhaust with the stock manifolds ??.....Lew
I have the complete Bassini exhaust from headers to tailpipe on my 94 lightning. I have the cat y-pipe. I want to ditch the muffler and short tail pipes in favor of a 20 series flowmaster with a tailpipe in stock location

To be honest Lew the butt-o-meter says there is a gain, the MPGs also improved from when I started. At the time I replaced the entire exhaust I stayed with factory manifolds because of cost. All of the exhaust shops in my area charge big $$ for custom work. It was much easier to go with the pre-made pipes and other components of my choosing. It was simple matter of cost/benefit/hassle factor. I know I could get some more return on my dollar with some headers, shorties for me, but right now I am sticking with what I have.
Between the new exhaust and the six litre tuneup I picked up about 2 MPGs overall. I did them all at once so I cannot say I got X from this and Y from that.
