Looking at buying an SN95 Mustang

Whats up guys? So I recently got my student loan which I had requested so I could buy a new car.
Got a Bug right now lol I hate it, its for sale. Obviously got the F250 as well but lol it doesn't make very good daily driver.

So I decided on a 94-98 Mustang GT. I was going to buy this white 98 that had the 99-04 P.I. heads swapped onto it. Damn that car was so nice. But he decided to keep it. Oh well.

Just thought I would post up cause Im excited lol but man car shopping is tedious. Hey you 5.0 guys, what kind of mileage have you seen out of your motors? Cause there is a 94 Cobra Im looking at right now, its only got 52k on it!

The Cobra suffered an engine fire though... said he used genuine ford parts to replace it. How complicated is the 5.0 harness?

I have a 92 Lincoln MK VII that's getting 26 MPG highway...and it now has 190,000 miles on it. It has the 5.0 H.O. engine, bone stock.

Bear in mind, though, the Cobra will be geared differently, and may get lower numbers.

Yeah lol called the dude with the Cobra. He won't take less than 5k... ITS A SALVAGE TITLE come on. I didn't really like it cause it was red.

I did like that it was a Cobra though cause they were rated at 240hp.

I am really surprised you are getting that mileage its impressive. I just didn't have any idea cause my truck is 14 highway 11 city, lame.

I think you mean '92 bud.

A '94/'95 GT in good shape will be a rare find. It's got all the foxbody plus's and add's 4 wheel disk brakes and ABS.

A '96-'98 GT will be a dog if it's bone stock. My friend has a '97 GT vert, has 87k on it and a few bolt on's and runs rather good for what it is. It's got 4.10 gears, so mpg is 16.. if that.

A good condition fox would be a nice option too. It might be older, but if in good shape their mad easy to work on. I drove my turbo'd one to Pittsburgh and back (300 miles, one way..). She knocked down 17mpg (3.27 rear gear). Plus whooped on a few vette's along the way.

A word of warning, the '98 GT's are the odd ball year. Lots of engine parts from the '96/'97 won't fit the '98. This is due to Ford gearing up for the change in '99.

Any questions, post away and I'll try and answer as best as I can.

Mark 7 and 8's get rather good mpg cause their shaped like a damn fish. Very aero-friendly. The air suspension also lowers the car at hwy speeds to further increase the aerodynamics. I just bought a '95 MK8 with the 32valve 4.6 V8. From what I'm reading they average close to 26mpg on the hwy. The 3.08 rear gear helps some too lol At 70mph, the car is barley touching 1700 rpm.

5.0 Cobra's would be nice, and they actually make around 260 BHP. Have you considered a '99+ GT?

My 3.55 geared '94 averages 22-25 MPG mixed driving. It's not too hard to get those numbers, either.

If I get a 4.6 I would want to swap it to the 99-04 heads anyway.

Also thank you for your input but Im also looking for good handling so the 94-98 is a little better for me.

But yeah 94-95s are hard to find period. The few that I found were super high mileage, or wanted way too much. lol

^ What do you mean "good handling?"

My brother's '00 GT is much stiffer than my '94, and bolt on mod for bolt mod the PI GT's are going to be quicker than the 94-98 GT's.

Clean, low mileage(less than 120K) SN95's cost just as much as a solid New Edge these days. Like you were saying, hard to find the clean ones.

Well the SN95 is an updated version of the Fox platform. And I'm pretty sure they handle better than the Foxbody. They are lighter too.

I have been looking at new edge, but they are mostly out of my price range here. Lots of them are automatic as well. Don't want an auto.

A SN-95 car ('94-'98) is NOT lighter then a fox body ('79-'93). Most fox's weigh close to 3200lbs, my 5.0 coupe weighs just a hair over 3000 lbs. A SN car pushes 3300lbs and goes up (for verts).

The self lowering suspension is only on the VIII, NOT the VII...

My VII is only hitting 1800 at 80mph...great fuel mileage on it! The previous owner kept all maintenance records, to include every oil change. Best $500 car I've ever owned! I've driven it from Utah to Ohio and back 4 times this year...and plan on doing it again tomorrow morning.

No way in hell I'd do it with the truck...it would kill me in gas!!!!

I have a 93 GT convertible 5spd, triple white. It has 160 some odd thousand miles on the engine. It has never been opened up. Only changes the car has is a set of SS BBK headers, Flowmaster exhaust, and 3.73 rear gears. I get 21 mpg normal everyday driving and have seen as high as 26 mpg on the highway at around 65mph.

If you are looking for a Mustang, look very careful at them. Way, way too many of them have had the ever love'n crap beat out of them. Especially a GT or Cobra.
