Am I remebering correctly?

No choke is needed on a dedicated propane fueled engine. Since the fuel arrives in the mixer as a gas, the atmospheric pressure equalize the mix on cold mornings, so no choke is needed.


I am planning the conversion but am currently hobbling along with the gas carb and do not want to mess with a new choke if I will not need it for propane.

 

Technically yes. Propane systems do not have a choke but most of them have a "primer" system to make up for leak down pressure losses and low cranking vacumn on cold starts.

Most systems will lose the fuel charge between the outlet of the vaporiser and the inlet of the mixer overnight so without a primer you would have a long crank when its cold, and on bigger engines in hd trucks the cranking vacumn is low so that somtimes they do not create enough to open the vaporiser so a primer gives you a "shot" of fuel to overcome this.
