I need to know which frost plug it goes in. Oh and do any of you have hose heaters in a lower radiator hose? It is for the superduty in my sig. Thanks!

Are you sure it doesn't already have one? My 2010 came stock with a block heater at no extra charge.

They don't come with block heaters if they are originally sold in warmer climate states.

It's a gasser...You'll be fine. I spent a winter up there and saw -55 while parking outside. Clutch was stiff as hell, but no drama.

I put a Wolverine model 16 oil pan heater on my truck and it works great. You may want a smaller one for your gasser, my oil pan holds 14 qts.

I grew up a little north of you (the Iron Range) and sure as heck don't miss those winters! The only thing I go back for now is weddings and funerals It sure is beautiful country though!

I've never liked the heaters that go in the lower radiator hose. I've had a few and was underwhelmed by them. A lot of the logging equipment we used up there had oil pan heaters like barnbridge mentioned and they worked really well. Way easier to install than a block heater also, that's the route I'd go.....

The one on my 2v is at the LH rearmost softplug. This is also conincidentally one of the easier ones to get to. I would guess that it would go in the same place on yours.
Do the block heater not the hose heater. The hose heater tends to run most of the warm water through the radiator first, cooling it.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all of the replies guys....tomorrow I'm going to be working on the truck and will check the Lf hand side. do you mean drivers side? I would like to go with the coolant heater... I already run synthetic oil so that should help my oil. I have seen as cold as -54 up on the range and that is partly why I would like to install this before winter. Around my house I rarely see colder than -20 but like the idea of getting in a truck the has no problem starting even in the worst elements.

I just bought a 600W heater for my truck. It goes into the rear driver side frost plug. I had to drain my coolant out of the radiator and there was some I lost on the driveway because I didn't know where the drain plug on the block was. Lost maybe 1/3 of a gallon. Pound the plug in with a screwdriver and the other end spins out, grab it with a pliers and pop it out. Clean off the surface to make sure that the o-ring on the heater is not damaged and add some grease to the o-ring. Slide it in so the element is at 12 o-clock, and tighten up the screw that clamps it into place. CAUTION the element is brass and with an 0-ring you don't have to tighten it up really tight. Wrought the cord keeping it away from the exhaust manifold as much as possible and zip tie it down. Fill with coolant and burp the truck by running it and monitoring the temp gauge and coolant tank. The whole job took me about 30 min. including removal and installation of the coolant. Hope this helps anyone that is in the same predicament as I was in. I bought the heater from napa and it was $42.00.

To late to get pics of the install but could you possibly post a pic or two of the finished product? I'd like to do this very same add and would like to know what it looks like so i get it done right.
