My 1995 Ford F-150 project

I have been thinking about building a truck for a while now and decided on either the 1995 F-150 or the 1997 F-150, so I thought about it some more and decided on the 1995 model.

I'm on a limited budget right now, so eBay parts have helped a lot. Today just came FT2B-16B114-AA-CA emblems.

Also does anyone know how to program the keyless entry fobs?

I planned on building the truck with a 302 5.0L V8 and an automatic transmission. Then maybe later on, upgrade to a 351 5.8L.

I don't have the list of factory options for the F-150 for 1995 so, what should I look for. I know that there were a number built Ford plant in Kansas City, Claycomo, MO.

I like the stepside version, rather than the flareside, so I will build one of those neat Stepsides.

It will just depend on what cab and bed I can find, though I would like a long bed, super cab.

Anyone have parts to throw at me? As long as they're not over $600.00 and I can pick them up if you're in WA.

I will take parts from any 1995 Ford F-150 that was made from 10/1994 through 10/1995.

I will also take comments and suggestions.. but for now I will go pick up the old 302 5.0L V8 block, out of the 1995 F-150 my buddy has upgraded to the 351 5.8L.

Any thoughts on the 1995 XL or XLT? What is the difference?

Many thanks in advance,

Greg

What type of build are you going to do 4wd or street type. If its a street type I thought a truck of that vintage with a 302 5 speed and mass air and single cab step side would damn near beat a lightning. If Im not mistaken the bed is fiberglass so it would think it would be lighter. It would only take a few mods to make it really run and still be stock to the novice observer.

gbowne1,

Ford quit building the stepside back in the 80's if I'm not mistaken. The flareside was introduced in 1992 and discontinued in 1995. Neither the stepside or flareside ever came as a long bed. Also, I'm pretty sure a stepside bed won't fit a 95 without a bunch of modifications.

Most any parts froma 92 through 95 will interchange with no issues so there's no need to look for parts by the month.

Greg, I think you need to spend a good bit of time researching through the "search" function on this forum to answer your questions, otherwise you will be spending money and time needlessly. Good luck with your project.

Scott

the difference in the XL and XLT..
XL- manlue windows/locks, grayish black grille, black mirrors, no fancy tailgate, the XL was the base model that took the place of the "custom cab"
XLT-auto windows/locks, chrome grille/mirrors, the fancy tailgate. it had everything the XL didn't have..

^^^^ That is not correct.

XL W/ Chrome grille and mirrors:

XLT w/ Crank windows and manual locks

And "Custom" was not really a model. Its what they called it when you picked out your options. You could have every option available on these trucks, from power windows/locks to chrome grille to carpet, but if you didnt want a radio, they called it a "Custom." The reason customs are normally looked at as a lower model, is because most of the people that wanted their trucks special ordered were fleets, and they wanted NOTHING. It made the truck much cheaper than even the XL version, and owners didnt want employees sittin in the truck, enjoyin the ac and the radio, and not working.

Ok, Well the truck will be my daily driver. It really won't be much of a show truck.. but I do have a number of friends who take their cleaned up truck to shows.. so maybe that's an option down the road. It's not intended as a rebuild, nor much of a restoration.

Anyone have the Ford OEM option list of option codes from 1995?

I love the chrome look.

I'm not an offroader, but 4wd would be nice for the snow around here in Seattle.

I love the chrome look.

I have access to lots and lots of 1992-1995 parts.. though the 1995's seem to be more available around here than the other years.

BTW, 1995 was the year I graduated high school too.

Is there a speedo with Tach available on the automatic transmission models?

Those amber cab lights are cool too. Oh yean and I like that stainless tailgate trim with the Ford logo.

There is something called the Eddie Bauer edition and also the Lariat and also the Mark III. There is also the Lightning and the SVT Raptor.

Eariler this morning I went to my friend Troy's place with my other friend Scott and picked up his old 302. It's been in his garage since 2002.. came with the fan shoud and radiator, plus it has A/C. The only thing I noted that he said the TPS was replaced.

I looked at videos on youtube, and the youtube userid 'protoballa07' has the best one I could see in a nice red color

Is there a dual battery option from Ford?

all models came with chrome grille and mirriors in 87-91.. the headlight buckets differed tho..
EDIT: excusse me, i was wrong about the 87-91 with chrome grilles.. there were black grilles also..

FWIW my grandfather custom ordered a 1992 after his 91 was totaled. He (according to the dealer) had one of the first of that new body style in NJ. His was an F250 XLT Lariat (what that really meant I will never get as XLT and Lariat seem to have the SAME exact stuff perhaps besides a woodgrain interior option) 2wd, 4.9L,5 speed with every possible HD package you could get at the time.

I am gonna add the Flowmaster exhaust too.

Are there different window washer / radiator overflow tanks?

A friend of mine will bring his set of rims and tires from his early 1995 F-150 XLT w/302 5.0L. A couple cases of beer to him for that.

QUOTE: Are there different window washer / radiator overflow tanks?

to the best of my knowlege, no, they are all the same, from 87-96 they were the same, my '87 and my '96 both have the same tank..

and as for the flowmasters... they do give good sound and preformance, but if this is going to be your DD, i would maybe find a different route to take on exaust.. i have never had a flowdog but i have rode in 3 trucks with them, 1 was a 04 chevy 2500HD no real noticable drone, the 2nd was a '99 f150 with 4.2 had drone in low 3rd gear drove me nuts, the 3rd was a '74 f100 it had 2 40 series and it drones everytime you let off the gas
the '99 had a 4.2-40 series SIDO, the '74 had a 360 BB-40 series, and the chevy had the 6.0 gas motor-50 series
all sounded great, but all had some drone somewhere in the rpm range..

Alright so I will go get the chrome grill, lamps, markers and turn signals from the yard up north when I go there to get the washer tank / radiator bottle.

I'm not sure what color interior I want, but there appears to be several colors, though red, gray and some sort of light brownish or tan color.

A check of craigslist shows a clean 1995 F-150 frame chassis rail with no engine, axles, or other drive train.

I also noticed a Edelbrock upper manifold at my friends' place. Might get that too. Gotta ask him about that.

He got into building Mustangs so.. didn't want the 302 anymore after the swap which is cool. Gonna have to find a tranny.

i wouldn't worry about the upper intake, it flows better than the car intake but the truck intake can be picked up really cheap and they flow great, in fact before the aftermarket started making intakes for these motors, it was a popular mod the mustang guys to put a truck intake on there..
dont flame me for that, i found that out on a mustang forum... altho i learned the truck intake stuff from conanski..
