Engine Question

I have a 1962 Ford Unibody SWB truck. I am considering my engine options to make it a streetrod. They are asking $4995 for this engine and I was wondering if someone could help understand if this is a good buy for the price. This is my first engine to buy. I also wanted to know if it will even fit in my truck and what type of transmission should I put with it?

Below are the engine specs. It is a Ford Big Block 460 with about 512 HP

The balanced rotating assembly (typically includes crankshaft, forged pistons, rings, connecting rods, rod bearings, and balancer) featured in this engine:
  • 3.850" stroke cast iron crank
  • 6.605" big beam forged rods with ARP rod bolts
  • 10½ to 1 compression pistons
More special features of this engine include:
  • Seasoned 2-bolt main block, vatted, magnaflux checked for cracks, thermal cleaned, steelabrated, bored and honed and plateau honed to fit new pistons
  • Deck head gasket surface on block to ensure a good seal
  • New CompCams Hydraulic flat tappet cam with .584"Int/.588"Exh valve lift
  • Aluminum heads with 2.245"Int/1.744"Exh Cobra Jet size stainless swirl polished valves with undercut stems to improve flow - similar to Cobra Jet head
  • Screw-in studs and guide plates
  • New Hardened exhaust seats for use with leaded or unleaded fuel
  • New 1.440" high performance springs set up to match cam
  • New Spiral-type valve guides for better oil retention
  • New High temperature valves seals
  • New Hardened push rods
  • New Adjustable roller tip rocker arms
  • New Perfect Circle rings
  • New Double row timing set
  • New High volume oil pump with steel drive shaft and bolt on oil pickup tube
  • New Brass expansion plugs
  • New Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake manifold. This dual plane intake constant cross-sectional area design builds low end and mid-range acceleration while optimized runner path make top-end hp
  • This engine takes a square bore carb. It works best with a 850cfm carb (not included)
  • All parts are painted separately before assembly for that show quality look
This engine comes completely assembled with oil pan, timing cover, harmonic balancer, valve covers, and Edelbrock intake manifold. We even supply a new a/t flexplate with this engine.

This engine is custom built from start to finish in our state of the art facility by professionals that take pride in their work to guarantee that you get a top quality engine the first time!.

This engine is covered by a 1 year written warranty.
(There is no warranty when using a Blower, Turbo, Super Charger or NOS)

Engine swap mount is $110, plus you will need to back that hoss with a built up C6

LMC Truck Parts - Page 49

It's always nice to buy a motor ready to go, but you will of course save $$$$ if yu buld one up yourself. You may want to stiffen up the frame and you will more than likely have trouble getting the tires to grip...
