Tim,
I am by no means an expert on fuel system additives, but I have never read a bad review (owners, auto magazines) of Techron. It's my understanding that Chevron invented PEA (polyether amine) and all the other manufacturers (Redline, Gumout, etc.) use PEA in their cleaners.

I would think a bottle every oil change would be enough.

Aaahhh, yes, compression ignition...I miss that truck Tony, thats why I still have it in my sig. But the new one is treating me real good so far. Maybe someday when I wear this one out I'll buy me another.

It is a Ford Tim you won't wear it out, another looker will catch your eye in a few years and you will fall in love all over again.Best not to go that method with the wife though that can get expensive.

+1 on Techron. Honda, Mercedes, and BMW officially recommend Techron as a cleaner and they build some nice motors. BMW actually sells Techron as a BMW product at their dealers. I have never seen a mfr recommendation for any other cleaner. And yes, you can buy 6 packs at Costco for cheap. I'll run some thru each of our vehicles about twice a year, and more often if I suspect I've gotten a bad tank of gas.

As with framerboy, I have not used fuel injector cleaner in my vehicles. My '89 Ranger had 176,000+ miles on it and my '99 F-150 had 90,000+ miles. Both ran great. The '10 F-150 probably won't get to taste the stuff, either. I see no need. Just run a quality brand gasoline and drive.

I usually just fill up at Wawa around here, its convenient when I stop for morning coffee. Can't speak for the quality, but they have a good turn-over. Sounds like Techron is the way to go.

You can put my vote in the Techron column - 220K miles on 87 Jetta, 194K miles on 99 Audi A6 (and counting), 115K miles on 04 Suburban (and counting) with no fuel injector issues. The 10 F150 with 8k miles is on same diet (1 bottle every 5k).

Techron is real good stuff. however, if you can get a bottle of BG 44K, give it a whirl. It is the best I have ever used and Mercedes endorsed it. It's not cheap, and it's only sold thru shops/dealerships, you may have to ask around for it.

If your running gasoline with any ethanol in it, you wont find a better solvent/cleaner.

Part of the problems ethanol causes in older cars is loosening crap in the fuel system and causing clogs at the injectors. They'll eventually dissolve if ethanol use is maintained and they're not so bad the vehicle is still drivable.

As far as over the counter injector cleaner... pick your snake oil.

I'll buy the snake oil that BMW officially sells me for my BMW (Techron) as being a cut above:
