D3VE head ??

What can I do to make them better?? I have been reading a lot of conflicting posts and I'm confused!!

Can I put roller rockers in them and what is a good compression to put under them??

I'm building a 460 for my 70 F350 tow rig/hot rod truck. I'm shooting for 400hp+ and I'm on a tight budget. I'm willing to take the time to save $ for good parts but my 360 is starting to die so I'm trying to get all my internals together and throw beter externals on as I can aford them.

putting the larger 2.19 intakes in them and doing porting work on the exhaust especially can really wake these heads up. 400hp is fairly easy goal with some work done to these heads and right selection of parts.

as far as roller rockers you can get the conversion kit to convert the bolt down pedastals to roller rockers or you can get the pedastals machined down to accept screw in rockers. its a wash as far as pricing goes.

check out reincarnation-automotive.com as he is the guru on porting these heads and all the conversions info also. you have to pay a fee to access the porting guides, but well worth it if you want to do it yourself. you can also buy the heads from him complete ready to go.

as far as compression in a tow vehicle, shoot for aroun 9 to 9.5:1. don't want anything more than that as it will be under heavy loads. even at that compression, your probably going to have to use hi-test when towing to keep the detonation away.

I was going to use a 9.7-1 Kieth black piston. The trucks towing dueties will be to tow my 4x4 rig which is only about 3,000 lbs and my trailer isn't very heavy iether. I'm figuring loaded for a day of wheeling I'll have an extra 5,500lbs behind her. Not much at all realy. Is that still not a good piston choice??

D'3's are a good head after you do some porting and bigger valves. They can be drilled and taped for rocker studs guide plates. My current BB has stock F.I. pistons in it. They are dished slightly, not nearly as much as the stock ones. They are by no means a race piston but they don't cost a small fortune and do raise the compression some.

KB's are a good choice or SP also good> I like Diamond Forged.

Just get a set of carbides & open up the exhaust side pretty easy takes about 20 beers to get it done over a weekend,

Throw a .488 double duration cam & some roller rockers
Crane are good or I use Harlan Sharps.

Reincarnation is good I subscribed & have do a few sets they came out great. add easy 50 - 60 hp over stock D3's are a great head I ahve a set with 2.19's in my Bogger almost 600 HP on them Totally ported & Polished 2.19 valves. .550 cam
10.5 - 1 pop ups but then again 110 octane $$$

The intake side is not as important just gasket match & bowl blend them. The short turn radius is where the work needs to be done.

That's prety much the plan. I had grand plans of crazy big power and making a monster out of this motor but I just did I regasket and overhual on my 360 and I think 400hp is more than enough in my truck. All the rain we have been getting made me realize my truck would be a little crazy with 450-500hp as a daily driver
