Good sounding muffler for a V8 5.4 f250
I am looking to put a louder exhaust on my F250 cc sb sw 5.4l v8 I already tried a glass pack I cut the old muffler out a put a glass pack in but dont really like the sound but on my F150 with a 4.6 I did that and it sounded perfect, anybody out there have any other ideas on mufflers and tips etc. I would like a deep throaty kind of sound with no back fireing

I am partial to the Flowmaster 40 series muffler. I think it has a nice deep throaty sound. The sound is a little loud, but the tone is very low with a little resonance depending on the piping used before and after the muffler. Many on this site have used this muffler also and will probably post their own feelings. I think this muffler really makes the 5.4L sound like a large displacement V8. Best of all, the 40 series Flowmaster is not obnoxiously loud. I use this muffler on virtually every dual exhaust system I bend and install.

Heres my expierience with my 01 SD 5.4 (I no longer own) I started out with a Gibson, SI/DO sideswept system. It was nice but not much louder than stock, it was a bit louder but I think that was more because of the dual outlet pipes more then the muffler.
Unhappy with the mild change in sound, I wnet to the muffler shop and had the Gibson muffler removed and a Flowmaster 40 (delta) SI/DO was morphed into its place using the Gibson catback pipes.
WOW, what a difference. Great sound! Not obnoxious, just mean. Deep and low, even at idle you could hear the low glup, glup, glup, glup. I will say this though, just before I traded the truck in I was starting to tire of the Flowmaster for one reason. As it aged (more miles) it seemed to be getting louder and louder. The in cab resonance was starting to get a bit much. Not unbearable, just more than I was liking.
I would imagine a Flowmaster 40 Delta SI/SO would be better, I think the dual outlet pipes had alot to do with all the in cab resonance.
