1989 F250 Trans/Transfer Case

One son of mine has a 1989 F250 4by with the ZF5 speed. Has to replace slave cylinder.

How much of a pita is it to seperate the trans and transfer case? Looked at it and looks like a major chore to pull them as a unit. So thinking split them up and then do the slave cylinder.
