'52 F-1 front drums
I have a front brake drum in need of replacement. In the future I intend on changing to power disc, but for now, I am sticking with the drum brakes until my wife's memory of how much I have already spent on this truck starts to fade ....
Dennis Carpenters lists a front drum brake for this model but makes a point to state that it is imported. My question is "has any one used one of these imported drums or should I try and scrounge the junk yards for a used drum in good shape"?
My luck with repop parts has not been all that good is the reason for asking.
Thanks
Fred

Hi Fred,
I doubt very seriously that you will be able to find a used drum that is serviceable. The tollerance on those is ony 11.000 +/- 0.060"
Be sure to have those sized because people used to let them go and they will cause big problems with braking if they are allowed to go too far out of tollerace - both with fitting the shoes and warping!
Also 48-52 drums were unique due to the offset.
The imported drum you are talking about is the same drum that all the resto parts places have. They all get it from the same supplier. The least expensive place to get them (that I have found) is JobLot Automotive.

I have two of their drums on the front (with the big 390 and C6 in it) of my truck with about 17,000 miles on them and I have had absolutely no problems.
