Question best tires for icy and snow coverd roads ?

Okay guys sorry to start another tire thread but its seams all the other ones I looked at were about mileage

So deer season is coming up quick and with that around hear comes unplowed icy roads and the tires I have now suck in snow ?

I would like a aggressive looking tire but still grip very good on snow and ice

Thanks guys
Jordan

I like my Goodyear Duratracs. They have a 10 rating for snow. They seem to be wearing good on the highway after about 4k miles. Ride is good and road noise minimal. http://www.discounttire.com/product/tires/gdyvl6.xl.jpg

I'm going to try the hankook dynapro mt's. They are studdable and they have an aggressive mud tread. Has anybody tried them?

Havent tried the MT's , but my the ATm's have been awesome on our X. They have almost 50k on them and still look good. Probably have to replace next summer. Winter traction is best of any tire I have had.

Them Duratrac's do look nice and look like they can handle the job, nice tire. I've been pondering going back to my Bridgestone Revos, they were unstopable in snow, great tire IMO but I'm still open for suggestions.

I ran the Hercules Trail Digger MT last winter and this summer. I really liked them on snow and ice and they have the pre drilled stud holes in them also.

I believe the duratracs are have stud holes as well. I'm glad now that I didn't do that, but i bet they're unstoppable with studs.

It also depends on the kind of snow All terrains I think work the best for ice snow it's kinda hit and miss sometimes you don't want to dig and ride on top of the snow. Snow is kinda like sand if I start diggin too much I let air out of the tires but if you have no way of airing back up kinda sucks driving back into town with low tires. My BFG M/Ts did alot better in the snow than the Toyos I got now though

You want an aggressive looking SNOW tire? Why? Wouldn't you want a great functioning snow tire instead? Blizzaks.

I've heard that General Grabbers do well in the slick as far as AT tires go.

A good AS tire will outperform a MT tire on snow packed and ice covered roads. I don't run AS tires because I don't like the look of them. LOL!

With over forty years of driving in ice and snow conditions for 6-7 months out of the year, I've been with Coopers for years now. Having lots of pickups, and quit a few cars in that time, the Cooper Discover has given me the best traction in the winter months (studded and unstudded) and a quit ride in the summer months. The siping works great but does shorten the tread life a little. I get around 50K miles to a set (even with about a third of our roads up here being gravel). I've used just about every major brand out there and Cooper has always performed the best for me. They ain't monster truck pretty or moncho, in some peoples opinion, but they work for what I have to deal with every year!

I had Cooper Discovers on my truck last year. They were bald and I was going places no one else could go and pulling them out on my way through. Here in PA we had a bad winter. The coopers are about 200 a tire i found. I got about 60000 out of them. I went with Yokahamas Geolanders this year Just because of price. Looking forward to trying them out this winter

i have cooper discoverer st's on the excursion... she sings a bit to you on smooth roads, not bad, but definitely kick *** in snow and ice. It was night and day taking off the michelins that I bought the ex with and putting on the st's.
