2011 Engine Pricing

Just found this on pickuptrucks.com. Not too bad of an upgrade price on the 5.0 or 3.5.

You gotta be kiddin me.

$1000 to go from the 3.7 L to the 5.0 and then ANOTHER $750 bones to go from the 5.0 to the 3.5 L ecoboost that supposedly is THE F150 towing engine?

$2000 extra for the 6.2 liter in the F150??

Anybody that needs to tow over 10k lbs regularly is going to look at that and immediately price out an F250 with that base engine 6.2 liter that they get with no additional surcharge.

I hope Ford wakes up and realizes that money don't grow on trees, and the surcharge for the 5.4 over the 4.6 used to be $695...

It will all depend on the MPG numbers. The EcoToot might actually be worth it if it got like 23 mpg on the highway. The old 4.6 2v was rated at 16/21 mpg in 4x2 configuration. If a 20% mileage improvement was actual mileage (17/23), the price might be worth it.

The 3.7L will be the base engine in 4x2 models. Instead of seeing a line item price for the engine upgrade if the 4x4 option is chosen, we'll likely see a larger price for the 4x4 option. Kind of takes your mind off the engine price.

Either way, these increases are steep. I sure as hell hope the 5.0L is worth shelling out a extra G for.

Current pricing 4.6 2V standard
4.6 3V upgrade about $895
5.4 L upgrade above 4.6 3V about $895.

How is this different?

The 4.6 2V is rated at 19 hwy, the 3V is rated at 21.

Interesting the EB is less than the 6.2. I find it hard to believe that its cheaper for Ford to produce the EB, but I guess I could be wrong. Could it be that Ford has priced them that way intentionally to push people to the EB over the 6.2? This may be done either to push people in the new direction or possibly push them to a higher mpg vehicle, thereby raising the corporate average...

It is a lot less material (metal). The EB is produced in higher numbers than the 6.2L (economies of scale benefits). And...as you referenced, it is cheaper overall to charge a little less but NOT pay a fine to the US Governement.

...Or because they know that some people will pay whatever it takes to have the biggest, newest engine out there. The 5.0 is the standard engine in supercab and supercrew 4X4 XLTs, and for all trim levels above XLT. So, depending on what model you buy, the Ecoboost could add about as much extra cost as the 5.4 did over the 3-V 4.6 in the XLT. As far as the upper trim levels go, what's another $1,000 when you really gotta have a 6.2?

The 6.2L is also the base engine in the SD line-up. The F-150's bring an opportunity for Ford to recoup some lost $$$.

That's good news that the 5.0L is standard in the XLT Scab / Screw 4x4's. I would shell out the xtra $$$ for that very sweeeeeeet little motor.

I remember a few months back we were reading rumors of 3K for the 6.2. So, 2K sounds a little more palletable (sp?). I'm also thinking the engine prices may, key word may, include some of the price of the model/package the engine upgrade may be part of. But I have not yet spent any time reading over the 2011 order guide, so I may be completely off based with my comments.

I'll wait to see what actual window stickers show before I get too concerned.

Not exactly true. Will some buy it no matter the charge, yep, but will it be the equilibrium price that makes consumers happy? Maybe, maybe not.

There will always be some that bitch about the price no matter what and there will always be some that pay for it no matter what, doesn't mean that they actually have it priced at what the market will handle(equilibrium price).

6.2v8 also requires you to get the max tow package which is another ~$500 or so.
