I'm not sure of the blue. The two that I had a chance to look at were a light blue but that might have been faded paint?? I'm not even sure on the red. I'm going to pick out a dark red and go with it.
The hubcaps that I have are painted with black lettering. Might even be the steel ones. They have been in storage since my sister-in-law delivered them to me from Calgary.( On a shelf in a garage for 30 yrs. )
The 3/4 ton hubcap looks like a baby moon . No ridges like the half ton cap has. Hope this helps some.

Hi Greg M-47 and brad1979,
Hey Greg, is this "old Mercury truck site"? Welcome to MercuryPickup
Brad,I just checked the Mercury logo in the chrome? nose piece on the hood and it is Blue.Same as the Hubcaps. My spears never had any color left on them.
Oh, Brad, the Blue on the nose piece is the same shade as the body paint, which in my case is blue.
Now the big news, I got a 1951 Merc,not a fifty-two.

So your the 51 kid instead of the 52??!
Yes that was a site run by Tom Skews that had a pretty good group of Merc owners and a lot of good discussion. It just seemed to die off. The site wasn't maintained and guys left it. I sent Tom some information to add to the site. Some went up but not all. I see the ad for macmillan that I sent is still up. Good guy and he has the Merc parts.
We discussed the possibility of body paint colour being the same on the trim but only the three colours of cap were reported. I have the 4 with black and one with red and have seen blue but that is it.

My nose molding may have been repainted, but the hood spears were definitely blue, it was that sort of a thin paint, more like a screening of some sort. Not that the trim was necessarily the original for my truck. What color blue is your truck? (paint code or name) As far as the year, the guy who did my appraisal told me my truck is a '52 from the vin, even though it's been registered as a '51 since new. I have since found out it is for sure a '51. I guess the information book he used states that if the vin is MD... it's a '51, if it's MDA... it's a '52. Not true. Always fun to find out more about your truck...

On a long hard second look, sun out, the blue on the nose piece is not the same blue as the body paint. More sky blue and like you say, thinner or more transparent.About 1/2 the blue is there. But,stuff fades in the sun, waxed, etc.(in the case of this truck it was painted flat black with a brush and is a mottly bk/bl) and over sixty years,it's hard to tell what the colours look like.
Did they have more than 1 color Blue in 1951? Is paint 97 Sharidan Blue? What's the name &# of the blue on the trim?
Thanks for the heads up on Mr.George Moir.I recall getting one of his price lists some years ago.
The A's...MDA83AR51-5048.
When I was a kid one of the thermosats snapped shut at the end of a 400 mile summer day. That side got really hot....and so the engine was sent out as a core.
The #'s on the rebuilt replacement engine on the pass side(right?) block are C1BA The C could be a G & the A a 4.The heads say EAB.Right side has an N and upsidedown K,the left head has an M above the EAB.
Did Murcury rucks have larger engines, bigger bore? Is the replacement engine a big bore?If a regular engine is a 239 CI,what's the CI of a big bore Merc?
I'll start lookin'
Cheers

Some of the Mercury's had a 255 engine. They had the same bore as the 239 but the stroke was 4".

I took a better look in the sun today as well, and the chrome hubcap had blue paint...
Sounds like you have a canuck engine, so that is a good start. The merc trucks are 239 ci just like the fords, but were made in canada and had C (C1BA instead of 8BA) codes on the castings. The big merc motor was only in the cars and is 255 ci (I think). I don't know what the engine codes are for the merc cars.

Just went and checked the flathead from the 5.5 big truck...hopin' for a 336 or a 255...alas...not today. The engine is Blue has C1BA and the heads say 8RT.

Oh,if I can recall 40 years ago...the horn button lettering and lines were painted blue.I recall having horn problems and the original got chucked out.I looked today and the one I got now is red lettering and trim.I think I got it and a chrome right vent window frame from a 1952 Ford.I threw out the broken speedometer head too.Ah,to be 20 again.

hub cap replicas

I have two beat up Merc caps and two equally beat Ford caps. I took a picture of the logo on the Merc caps and printed it full size. I took some vinyl sign material (sticky) and layed it under the photo and cut out my own decals. I also applied them to the Ford caps.

In real life, they look better than the pics. New caps would not have the same patina. My truck looks like an old truck, smells like an old truck... IS an old truck!

My horn button definitely has original red letters, I don't know about the hood spears and caps, but red certainly looks good with my seafoam green truck.
