blowing blue smoke (video included)

Hello,
I have recently purchased a 1995 ford f250 with the 5.8 liter v8. It has now started to smoke pretty bad. it is all smoke with a blue tint to it. It did not do this when i bought the truck a bout a week ago as i can tell. I have tried to change the pcv valvle that seemed to help maybe alittle if any at all. I am confused as to why this is doing this all of what seems to be a sudden. some backround on the truck i know it recently had the heads replaced because when the previous owner was installing the headers he drilled into the head trying to repair a stud. could it be the valve guides seals rings on the pistons? or could it be just the oil burning off from the old pcv valve still i have run it and let it idle for at least an hour in combination with doing both. Please help i am lost and hoping i can fix it. here is a video of the issue F250 Smoke pictures by photoshosting13 - Photobucket

Did you check for vacuum at the hose going to the PCV.. Those lines and intake ports are know to get full of **** and stop up.. 300 new pcv valves won't help until it has vacuum..

i have check the lind that goes into the intake manifold by pulling that line and there is suction. and also the one that goes from the filler neck to the air box and they are clear. is that the correct line? it also seems to be running fine other then when i heit the gas it blows blue smoke. ( not sure if it helps you explain but i did buy a haynes manual and will buy alldata if it it will help me figure this out)

Update to my smoke issue. i have followed all pcv lines and they are all free i also took a video of my issue. here it is in a link to photobucket. Listed in the title there is a cold start up then there is just a extension of the cold start up just idling then not even a minute later i rev the engine and you can see the smoke. Hope this helps.

Looked at the video you posted. It looked like there was maybe some grey to white in there.. But I take your word for it being blue, but I would do a compression test on all cylinders.

You could have:
Valve guides/Stems/Seals leaking
Oil drain passages in Head plugged
Worn Piston rings
Cylinder bores scuffed

If you have recently changed the oil, then there may have been a heavier viscosity oil in there to begin with and the lighter oil is now blowing past the rings. Example, P.O. was running 20w-50 or 10w-40 and you recently changed it to 10w-30, 5w-30 or straight 30w.

I would pull each plug and visually note the condition of each, and if you would like too, upload a photo so we can have look.

there is for sure some black in the begining but i also have a code for the egr valve stuck open so i am thinking that is where the black is coming into play aft the black eliminated it gray but the most part there is blue tinted smoke. i asked the previous owner when i bought it what oil he had been running and he said 10w40 and that is what i added when i saw it was at the add a quart line. Do you think he could have possibly screwed something up when he did the heads?

Black would indicate a rich fuel mixture, which, if left unchecked or not serviced, could be washing the cylinder walls. That could be giving you a the blue-tinted smoke from the rings not able to hold compression, and the oil allowed thru the combustion chamber. If he screwed up the heads, there is always that possibility.

First, I would visually look at each spark plug to check it's condition and for proper gap.

Second, see if you have a rich fuel mixture. That could be the root cause of the entire problem. If you do, and get it corrected, I would drain the oil and replace with a new filter.

Let us know what you find out. Maybe someone else can chime in on the video's and posts you have.

well after looking at the engine visibly and getting an opinion of a mechanic we first noticed that the intake manifold is leaking and there is a puddle of coolant he also seems to think it may be coolant so we are starting there replacing all the gaskets and all necessary hardware we are going to have to replace i also took the plugs out and here is a picture of them. From the plugs any one know what is going on?

It looks like 3, 6, 7, 8, are pretty black on electrode and the tip. Glad to see that you may have found the problem with the leaking intake gasket and notice the leaking coolant. Let us know what you find out from the dissassembly.

little update got her all back together and she is running again. so far it seems that it has helped alittle bit not sure if that was the full problem but for sure has helped. was running little rough so i tried rerouting the wires farthest away from each other. helped alittly not sure if i got the correct known problem ones far enough away. (Any one want to double check me and tell me what they are) Ran some sea foam threw it too and that has helped so anyway thankyou for all your help.

Blue smoke indicate burning of coolant. Does the truck have an oil cooler attached where the oil filter goes? Thats a common place for the water to get into the oil. That may be leaking... Could be worth a shot.
