SCT Livewire with DPF/DOC Removal

I have talked to a mechanic at Phil Long Ford, he and I were talking about the 6.4. He said it's a good motor but even better if the Emission stuff is removed. He further stated to me that the Regeneration process is quite hard on the motor. If you remove the DPF and tune it then the motor will last longer and with the DPF off the truck it will run much cooler. This was his opinion. I asked him if my truck was his what would he do and he told me that he would take it off. He then told me to contact Elite Diesel Engineering in Pueblo, CO. SO I did and they recomended the SCT Livewire withe DPF/DOC removal. Price is $1029.00 for all. Sounds good to me. I am tired of the regens! I was pulling my fifth wheel and UTV's over Monarch Pass and I could not go over 20 mph. It was in regen all the way up and completed the cycle at the bottom then when I turned off in Sargents, CO. another regen started up with a loss of power as before. When I got home I made an appt. with Phil Long Ford and after 4 days at the shop (Not working on it until the fourth day) the service adviser said everything was normal. Power loss is a normal trait of the regen process. I further told him that was a load of crap because back in July of this year I had no problems and was able to maintain a minimum of 35 mph over Monarch with the same load. Have any of you out there had any issues with removing the DPF and tuning the truck? All I am after is more fuel mileage and no more regens so I can see my fuel disappear. I know the warranty is always an issue but enough is enough. I want this to be a better diesel engine and from what I've read with the removal this motor is awesome. I know performance is a neat effect as well but a want a reliable truck that can pull.

Any thoughts???

I can't comment on SCT tuning, but I can comment on Spartan. Spartan has been 100% reliable on my truck for the last 30K miles. I am currently running a 250hp tune, that gets me a few more MPG's and loads more power. Also, no more annoying regens. I see you are running 37" tires... are you also running the 3.73 diff? If so you should definitely think about upping that diff to at least a 4.10 if not higher. Those tires are big and extremely heavy. But I think the best match for you would be to run a Spartan 210hp towing tune. It pulls great and gets a few more MPGs!

Take a look at this thread. This should give you some good info.

I do have the 3.73 rear axle. Also I did have the TOYO 37" MT's until last Friday as they were replaced with 325/60R20 Hankook Dynapro ATM's. I was told that they are a whole lot lighter than the Toyo's. Plus I now have a 50,000 mile warranty with the Hankooks. I really think that moving forward I will do the DPF delete with the SCT tuner. The price is right. Plus the company in Pueblo says its a good safe bet for me. I am just making sure that I don't make a mistake in moving forward with the DPF removal. I can't find any real issues witht the removal as of yet unless I run an extreme level of which I have no intention of doing.

Imgine running for a mile around your block...now imagine running around for a mile but when you breathe out its through a coffee straw. You will start to sweat and start working harder you will get hot. That's what happening to your motor...once you let it breathe it won't work as hard and you will go farther and work less .....that = fuel eco

There is nothing bad from taking the dpf off except losing the warnty. And you get to **** off the tree huggers

sct livewire

Truck in shop today, 08 f-250 6.4 4x4 crewcab 48000 mile. I run 33" on 20" rims and in down I can't get better than 11 mpg. Hwy 13 mpg. I am not hard on truck. Pulling my 35 ft f/w 9 mpg. My buddy works at ford dealer and said to get rid of all the crap. DPF/cat. I have done alot of research and it seem everyone uses sct, banks and spartan on fords. I am gone with sct/cat/delete. $1100.00 insulated. I am sick and tried of poor fuel mpg. I love the truck but not the mpg. I owned a 7.3 and would get 18-20 factory stock. My buddy just ask if I bring it in for service to put it back to factory. Can't wait to get it back.

I've been looking at doing the same thing, mostly for towing.. I get 9 with my show car trailer. but I don't think I can improve it that much ..maybe 1mpg towing. 2 not.. I have the DRW with 4.10 rear.
Texas450 basically went from 9-11 to 11-13. 2mpg. carrying load, not towing.

Very interested in your results

1100 mile trip 70-75, 16 mpg if I would drive under 65 I could get 18 easy. Better than 12 mpg. and love the power. Towing 12000 lbw. f/w 250 miles round trip 9 mpg at 65 mph did not improve towing but towing was a lot better than factory towing.
