Quietest All Terrain 'E' Rated Tire???

I've got lots of miles on my old BFG AT KO's but am considering something different this time around. I've looked at the Firestone Destination AT, Michelin LTX AT2, Goodyear Silent Armors but I'm tired of researching. I'm a 90% road / 10% off-road. What are you running that is relatively quiet and is a 10-ply 'E' rated all terrain tire? I'll be going back with the 285/75/16 size. Any / all input is appreciated...

look at the tread design to get an idea if the tire will be quiet.
look at the distance between lugs, the narrower the quieter.
Another factor would be the pattern. try and look for a pattern that has a center rib and rain channels.

The tire that comes to mind for quietness would be the bridgestone a/t dueler which I believe will come in the size you are looking for. The other is the dunlop a/t. Again look at the tread design, and find one closest to a highway tread design as possible.

I have had Nitto grapplers on 2 vehicles now 35" 8 plys on my Hummer and 35" 10 plys on my Avalanche. They are awesome off road which I do maybe 3 times a year. Mostly when hunting. They are quiet and very smooth on the highway. They do not throw rocks and look great. I do not like the look of the BFG ATs and dont care for the lug design either. I will be putting Nittos on my F250 I just got too. The only thing that I don't like is that it doesnt seem like they have a very deep tread depth. A friend has Dick Cepek FCII or whatever they call them, the AT design and it looked like he had about twice the tread depth of mine. He loves those tires and uses 95 percent on road.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on a set of the new Michelin LTX AT2's...Discount Tire made me a deal- mounted & balanced out-the-door price for $990. Not great, but not too bad IMO...

This is what I put on my truck. I like 'em. Nice and quiet on the highway and aggressive enough tread for snow that I run them year round.

How did they hold up? My friend had them on a F150 with the 4.2L V6, and killed them to within a few mm of the wear bars in 30,000 on the highway entirely unloaded. He had 265/70R17Es, just like I was thinking of putting on my truck, but after how bad his sucked I held off and started looking again.

I only have about 8,000 miles on them so far and they look good. I did notice that the wear pattern on the rears was not quite even. The center lugs had slightly more wear. I suspect it was due to having 75-80 pounds of pressure and no load most of the time. I just rotated them and will continue to rotate them every 5,000 miles. Hopefully that will keep the wear even.

I've had Goodyear Wrangler A/T's on both my 05 and 06 F-250's and would recommend them. The dealer put 4 new ones on when I bought the 06 for their cost of $780. I would think u should be able to get close to that price on your tires as well. My tires are more being 20 inch Harley Davidson rims as well. I have nearly 30,000 miles on the 06 tires now and find that they are very capable offroad and on. Good luck with your purchase.

Why would someone run LOAD RANGE E tires on an F-150 with a V-6?

Well, because they can, of course.

The GoodYear Silent Armor is probably the best tire I have used. Ran them on my '08 F250 and had lots of tow miles. I got almost 60K out of them, quiet, good tread pattern.

I have the Michelin LTX AT2 tire on my new '11 and rubber chunks are coming off the rear tires.
