brake booster upgrade? swap? stock?

Hey ford-fans,

1975 F250 4x4, 360cid, 4sp manual, Dana 44hd/ Dana 60. DRUMS ALL AROUND

It seems my brake booster has taken a dump. Luckily I can still stop, by standing on the pedal. I just wanted to know if there is a booster/master setup that will provide better braking action than the stock one.

A couple things (if they are a factor):

-I have found a dana 60 front and dana 70 rear (that if i can get my hands on) ill be swapping in...

-I plan on eventually doing the rear disc swap.

so is there a better booster/master that will fit now and work for that setup? (like a one ton booster/master?)

thanks ford-fans

Yes the F350 will work better

You have to be careful to buy the correct one though.

There is anumber on the face where the MC mounts and an FT number on the push rod.

Post those numbers

I looked and just couldn't find and numbers. unless you mean its underneath the MC. as in i have to remove it first to find that number? otherwise is there another way to differentiate the two boosters?

There is a thread on here "Really high end brakes" an he talks bout adding a Dual Chamber Brake Booster. I am looking to see how I can add that to mine sounds like a good upgrade. An how hard would it be to go disc brakes on these trucks? Mine has Disc on the front & drum on the rear.

Doing the rear swap is pretty easy from what I get. It uses mid-80's chebby front one ton disc brakes, mounted with a steel bracket.

72-79 Ford DANA 60 Rear Disk Conversion: Off-Road.com

And you just have to change the PROP valve.

Finally it was suggested to get a bigger booster and MC

The master/booster you want is from a 78 F350, with the dual diaph. It runs about $170 at Autozone, rebuilt.

no! the master has to match the truck! if your changing to the one ton stuff, change to the dual diaphram master/booster. i've had less than satisfactory performance when my stuff doesnt match. if your switching to the dana 60, i would get the booster/master from a 75 f350 2x4 (dual diaphram) to feed it.

ok... now im confused.

f-250 restorer says yes 78 f350 dual diaphram booster and master

highboy1975 says no.

I have a 75 f250 drum all around. 4x4, with 1 ton axles (dana 60 full float and dana 44hd 3500lb kingpin front) the back drums are 12x3 (off of f350) and the fronts are stock

will it work? will it be better? or will it be worse?

im not going to say anyone else is wrong, with the 78, i've heard there are some differences over the years. i would stick with like year, since everything is going to be pretty close.

Some booster rod run straight thru to the pedal..some LIKE the 78 use a fulcrum system mounted to the firewall

There are many number of boosters available for these trucks.

Stick to the charts to find the one you need.
