Just wondering how many members own the Supercab versions of this truck? Everybody seems to agree that comparatively, there weren't a lot made, altho there were 13,372 standard cab 4x4's built in '79 but no one can agree how many SC's were built. If we could ever find out for sure I think it would seem to solve the last remaining mystery of the Ford dynasty! I'll start with my Lariat that has a swapped in 429 & cancered cab but the tranny and engine are strong as ever & that ol boy will still climb a phone pole without talking a deep breath!

I think, based on what I've seen, that if it was really an F350 Super cab, that alone would make it incredibly rare. The fact that its a 4x4 F350 dent means those only came in one year, and that would make it even more rare. But to me, it sounds like it has a bunch of non stock stuff, so I wouldn't get too excited regarding its potential rare-ness until you figure out what you actually have using the frame vin and etc. either way if its in decent shape it would be a nice truck, and even if its a total piece of **** you could easily make more than double your money by scrapping it, so it was VERY well bought.

I have a 1979 F250 SuperCab 4X4 with a 400 V8 and C-6 tranny. I hope to own a 1977 2WD F250 SuperCab this weekend. The '77 has a 460V-8 and new C-6 tranny. The '77 is in much better condition than the '79. So, the plan is to basically pull the body and bed off of the '77 and put it on the '79 frame. I really want to put the best parts onto the one I end up keeping and sell the other which will be 2WD.

It will be a job, but the short time I have been on this board I have learned one heck of a lot from ya'll.
Thanks,
Rich

I've always wanted an F-250 of that era. My first new 4WD was a 1976 F-150. This is a project my son and I can do together. It will be his one of these days. We really wanted a Crew Cab, but that was near impossible.

Is that because my grandfather ordered it that way from ford in 79?

F360 = Type/GVW (model) code stamped on the Warranty Plate: F350 4WD Pickup, 8,550 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Ford didn't begin using liter designations until 1980.

What are the AXLE and DSO codes stamped on the Warranty Plate?

D3TZ-9920092-A .. "Glide-Out" Step Kit / 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco.

Available at the parts counter as an accessory, so it's wasn't rare back then. 'Course, today it might be rare considering the survival rate of these vehicles.

I have a 1979 F350 4x4 and I would like to set a few things straight about them. First off you could not get a 460, I tried ordering it, but Ford would not do it. I told the dealer I would pay for a special order, but the word back from Ford was no, that the 460 made too much torque for the transfer case. I told them that I would sign off on the warranty, but still no. If anyone has a 460 in their 79 F350 4x4, I say it was not built that way. Mine has the dana 70 rear. I don't remember ordering it, but I do remember ordering positive traction. I also ordered camper special. The reason I ordered an F350 over a beefed F250 was it was non-catyst and F350 was the lightest truck that was able to burn leaded regular.
The 400 2 barrel v8 is a gas sucking lame pig. I don't drive the truck anymore. I was going to put a 460 in place but have since changed directions and have a Cummins 12V lined up. I have heard that the frame width is different with the camper special and motor mounts for the Cummins must be ordered for that difference. This project should be started soon.
I have the window sticker somewhere, and if I find it, I will post it.

To the best of my knowledge the 351/400 was all you could get in the 79 F350

What backroom deals were brokered I have no idea.....but no 460's in 4x4's until 83?
