transshifts funny... normal or can it be fixed?
the tranny say when its shifting to 3rd, it shifts gears, then it goes back to 2nd then it shifts again and then locks the converter, sometimes it does it going to second, truck is a 97 it doesnt do this all the time, only at certain throttle positions. wot it usually shifts only once is that a computer issue? can that be fixed? or is it something i have to live with? its like 2-3-2-3----lockup, and sometimes it will do this more than once. sometimes if its bad, its like 2-3-2-3-2--3---lockup. it shifts and changes its mind really quick, like a woman, then it will go in the shift from 2-3 will last less than a second, take a couple seconds to shift again... its just really really annoying...like a woman..

Ok, it's not a Ford-thing that you have to live with.
Which CPS do you have? Was it replaced under the recall? Was the code cleared AFTER the new CPS was installed?
This could also be an indication that the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) in the rear differential is going bad. If the VSS is fairly new, remove it, wipe it off and reinstall it.
DO NOT USE ANY CLEANER ON IT, JUST WIPE IT OFF WITH A CLEAN RAG.
If the codes haven't been cleared, clear them. That way you'll know if they come back.

I'll take a guess here, its called 'cold shift syndrome'. Madvan should be here, he knows. Mine will do this when its cold and after about two minutes of running it will stop. Just before TC lock it will downshift just as you say. Sometimes I lock the TC just after the 3rd gear shift and it acts like it should. After a couple of minutes I unlock the TC and its fine. Sometimes I just push the OD button and let it go without the TC lock. I believe it is a Ford thing.

my truck does this flare thing once in a great while, i really have to be on it, and when it does it, i always let off asap.. im sure not soon enough, but.. i usually let off a little when its about to shift gears. i want my converter clutch to stay unlocked longer and let the converter do what a converter is supposed to do. thats a totally different problem from what im trying to address anyways. my truck shifts to 3rd GEAR, then back to 2nd, then to 3rd and sometimes back to 2nd and back to 3rd again. it should be called "woman syndrome" like it cant make up its mind. or another thing i thought it could be is when it shifts, its slipping so much that its like EEK! and it goes back to 2nd and revs a little higher like it knows its slipping, and doesnt like it, and you are supposta know what to do... but you dont, cuz ur not a woman... and then its finally uggh ok ill shift BUTTHEAD!! this should be called "woman syndrome"

Here is something to try just for fun. Not sure if it will work or not. Key off, key in your pocket, unplug the PCM and let it sit for about and hour. Plug the PCM back in and go drive it like you stole it. Then see where and how it shifts. Also what speed are you going when its hunting for the gears?

you know, Mine does sorta the same thing. The most aggravating is when I'm going up a hill, doing ok, but think I'll shove down the pedal to hold it in 2nd gear. As soon as pedal hits the floor, it shifts up into 3rd. let up on the pedal, it shifts back down to 2nd. Unhooked the batteries for a day then hooked back up. Tranny shifted better than it has since I got it (for a few miles) then went back to old self
